The Undergraduate Science Centre in the Faculty of Science is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Specialist, Employer Relations.

The Specialist, Employer Relations (Specialist) in the Faculty of Science is a member of the Careers and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team and reports to the Manager, Careers & WIL. The scope of the Career & WIL team focuses primarily on 1) supporting and delivering quality WIL programs, including Science Co-op, Professional Graduate WIL opportunities and other curricular WIL opportunities 2) career advising, 3) career programming development 3) fostering external relationships with employers in support of and work-integrated learning (WIL) for a diverse population across all Science programs, and 4) student engagement.

The Specialist will build and foster relationships within the community and create WIL and career opportunities for students in science. The incumbent will be a highly motivated, organized self-starter with excellent relationship building skills, and can balance multiple priorities with a focus on finding solutions for complex issues. They will initiate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders that support the development of students. This position will be responsible for planning and executing employer-related events, ensuring diverse and robust opportunities for students to connect with industry. This position works within the framework of University and Science policies and procedures and requires initiative and good judgement.

Due to operational requirements of this position, the incumbent would be expected to work predominantly in-office. The primary hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, there may be a demand to work outside of these hours.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Employer and Community

- Collaborate across Science and the University to develop, maintain, and evolve a large database of existing community partnerships.
- Identify and recruit new community partners, as well as nurture relationships with existing partners, to create WIL and career exploration opportunities for science students.
- Build relationships with stakeholders, secure sufficient co‑op and WIL opportunities, identify capstone projects for courses and identify opportunities for industry engagement within science.
- Ensure all WIL opportunities are tied to institutional vision and strategy.
- Identify target industries and employers to proactively upgrade partner list for career opportunities that meet employer requirements and student needs.
- Continually maintain metrics on contacts and WIL opportunities secured.
- Maintain knowledge of skill requirements and expectations of key industries and employers, opportunities available, and potential career paths for science graduates.
- Organize and host employer events, partnering, as needed, with internal Science teams and other campus career teams.
- Maintain relationships with existing employers, including follow‑up, to ensure their needs are met through our process and gather feedback for process and program improvement.




- Review WIL opportunities including job postings to ensure they meet science program and course requirements.
- Assist stakeholders to scope opportunities and approve them for student participation.
- Work with the Specialist, WIL Programs & Student Engagement to conduct WIL check‑ins and support employers and students in successful WIL opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Specialist, Curricular WIL to engage faculty members in WIL opportunities and support employers in building out their opportunities to suit the needs of Science WIL programs.
- Identify and plan employer networking panels and events throughout the year to support student and employer engagement.
- Alongside the Specialist, WIL Programs and Specialist, Curricular WIL coordinate an employer appreciation program and event, celebrating the employers engaged in our WIL programs and courses.
- Partner with student clubs and groups to host career and WIL related events, ensuring employer partners are supported and appropriately engaged.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new WIL programs to increase opportunities for students to participate in high quality WIL.

Program and Data Management/Reporting

- Manage high-volume communications with employers, students, and partners, including shared inbox oversight and timely response coordination.
- Work with the Student Services team to implement WIL programming.
- Develop, collect and report on WIL opportunities, employer engagement and employer related events.
- Work with the Careers & WIL Advisors to provide feedback to career development programming. Act as back‑up for the Careers & WIL Advisors as needed.
- Remain current in emerging WIL learning pedagogy, theory and practice, such as field placements and community-based learning and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in program offerings.
- Research industry trends, conduct surveys of internal (e.g. students) and external (e.g. community partners) stakeholders to inform the design and positioning of new and existing programs.
- Maintain employer and student data, prepare reports on employment outcomes, employer engagement activities, and program effectiveness.
- Work with Marketing & Communications to ensure marketing media (print and digital) promotes WIL opportunities and success stories.
- Work with our Advancement and Alumni team to report on employer partnerships and WIL opportunities.
- Present to stakeholders, particularly students and employers on WIL opportunities in science.

Other Responsibilities

- Prioritize own personal development, continuous learning and training.
- Maintain professional credentials relevant to the position and engages with such organizations in a way that will reflect positively on the University.
- Other responsibilities required/requested to support the Careers & WIL team,



as well as other stakeholders in science to ensure strategic plan priorities and student outcomes are realized.

Qualifications / Requirements

- An undergraduate degree required, preferably in business or education.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a career development or experiential learning role or related role, focused on building relationships with community partners (industry, non‑profit and/or government).
- Proven record of excellence in understanding the business environment and cultivating and maintaining successful business relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience developing and implementing a sales plan with clear goals and objectives.
- Experience planning and executing events.
- Contract negotiations considered an asset.
- Valid AB Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
- Experience in an academic environment translating pedagogical requirements into meaningful opportunities for students considered an asset.
- A high degree of business acumen, professionalism, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Highly developed organizational, analytical, creative, and problem‑solving skills to develop opportunities and deal with complex tasks and issues are required.
- Proven ability to meet competing and concurrent deadlines in rapid‑paced environment with constantly shifting priorities.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office are required.
- Experience working in CRM, student, or customer information systems considered an asset.

- Has knowledge of and understands the expectations of the University's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and applicable.
- Faculty/Departmental/Unit specific health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all work conducted is in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and other health and safety legislation as applicable.
