The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Sheldon Chumir Urgent Care works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of patients, families & communities within his/her level of competency. The RN is responsible for assessment (including triaging), planning, implementation and evaluation of care delivered. The Sheldon Chumir Health Centre, located in downtown Calgary, offers a wide range of services including urgent care, mental health, supervised consumption services, public health, home care, specialty clinics and community outreach. The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides care for unscheduled health conditions to a diverse population, as part of an integrated community service delivery model.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Current ACLS certification required (From the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation). At least one-year recent (within the last year) adult acute care nursing experience as an RN or LPN. Recent (within the last two years) nursing experience in Emergency or Urgent Care clinical settings. Ability to work in a stressful, rapid paced, dynamic workplace required. Demonstrated critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills required. Ability to work independently and interdependently. Demonstrated strength in developing collaborative, effective working relationships with clients of cultural diversity and socio-economic diversity. Ability to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds, bend, reach, stand for long periods of time and work in confined/awkward spaces.
Advanced certifications: PALS, NRP, ENPC, TNCC. Recent NVCI and CTAS training, cardiac monitoring, triage, and charge nurse experience in Urgent Care or ED. Proficient in Connect Care (EPIC) ASAP.
