Role Summary

Tourism Burnaby is hiring a Tourism Events & Visitor Experience Assistant for a summer student position from May to July 2026. This role will support Tourism Burnaby’s summer events and community activations by engaging with residents and visitors, sharing destination information, promoting local attractions and activities, and helping deliver a positive visitor experience at major community events.

This role will primarily support activations at major community events, including but not limited to Hats Off Day, Canada Day, Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival, and other high-traffic festivals and gatherings across Burnaby. This role will also support various departments through general administrative tasks and marketing-related activities.

Role Details:

- Job Type: Temporary full time summer student position
- Term: Approximately 12 weeks, from May to July 2026
- Pay: $25.00 per hour
- Hours: 32 hours per week
- Work Location: In person, based in Burnaby and at off-site event location
- Schedule: Primarily weekdays and weekends, with some evening shifts depending on event schedules. The weekly schedule will be determined in advance based on activation and administrative needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Mobile Visitor Center Supervisor, the Tourism Events & Visitor Experience Assistant will:

- Represent Tourism Burnaby at community events and activations in a professional, friendly, and welcoming manner.
- Engage with residents and visitors by sharing information about Burnaby attractions, events, neighbourhoods, and tourism experiences.
- Encourage visitors to participate in short surveys,



sign-ups, or promotional activities.
- Assist with setting up, maintaining, and taking down event equipment, displays, signage, and related materials.
- Distribute promotional materials and giveaways at events.
- Help collect and organize on-site survey responses, and engagement statistics for internal reporting.
- Assist with inventory organization, packing event materials, and keeping activation supplies clean and ready for use.
- Capture basic event content, such as photos or short videos, for marketing use when needed.
- Support the team with general administrative tasks related to events, marketing promotions, and summer programming during non-event days.

Required Qualifications:

- Outgoing, well-spoken, and friendly personality. Must be comfortable and confident interacting with the public of all ages.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. A proactive attitude to resolve problems independently.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and standing for extended periods during events.
- Ability to lift and move light to moderate event materials and supplies.

Desired (nice to have):

- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean history is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in customer service, tourism, events, festivals, marketing, or community outreach is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with Burnaby’s attractions, festivals, and community venues is considered a strong asset.

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Pay: $25.00 per hour
