What you will do:

The City of Waterloo is committed to offering recreation, leisure, special interest, and active living programs to persons of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Through collaboration with the City of Kitchener, Inclusion Services works with individuals to offer supports that encourage participation in our various programs and services. This new position will focus on enhancing existing services, supporting creation of new specialized programs, and implementing a new inclusion support worker team in Waterloo.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Children's Programs and Inclusion Services, in the Community Programming and Outreach Services Division, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Oversee the coordination, intake, and effective delivery of inclusion services for individuals with disabilities, providing accommodation through program adaptations, connection to one-to-one trained support workers and other identified means of assistance.
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise,



and support the performance of a team of Inclusion Services staff and volunteers operating across City facilities.
- Assist individuals and families who require inclusion support(s) to select programs and/or level of support required to participate in programming.
- Adhere to and support procedures including medication procedures and record keeping.
- Liaise and communicate with Personal Support Workers to ensure seamless supported participation in identified programs in alignment with City guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with programming staff and the READI team to assess current programs and develop a broader range of programs and services to better meet the needs of all residents, using an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lens.
- Work with program staff to adapt programs to include people with disabilities.
- Provide direction, recommendations, and training to various program and recreation staff and volunteers related to inclusive practices; develop new operating procedures as required in collaboration with the READI team.
- Respond to and assist staff and volunteers with crisis support and/or behavioural interventions during the delivery of leisure or active living programs, when required.
- Network, liaise and collaborate with various internal and external partners to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of inclusive recreation programs, services and events; Collaborate with and maintain effective participation and connections to local networks.
- Research, evaluate and implement trends and best practices related to Inclusion Services.
- Develop service initiatives aligned with the Corporate Strategic Priorities and Guiding Principles, and the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
- Source and purchase inclusion related equipment and supplies within overall program budgets; organize and maintain supplies/equipment inventory.
- Identify and lead continuous quality improvement activities related to the coordination, intake, and effective delivery of inclusion services.
- Complete payroll submissions for the Inclusion Services part time casual staff team.
- Promote and advertise programs and services in conjunction with marketing staff and other external community collaborators, explore different approaches to attract the disability community directly.
- Complete administrative tasks such as maintaining records, reports, funding applications, attendance statistics.
- Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation, responding promptly to customer inquiries and requests, including customer complaints.
- Provide evening and weekend coverage as needed. Attends meetings such as public, committee or council meetings outside regular hours as required.
- Ensure Inclusion Services comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Public Health Regulations and City of Waterloo Policies and Procedures.
- Work collaboratively with program and customer service teams to ensure seamless delivery of service.
- Participate actively at section and divisional meetings and other department committees as required.
- Assist to establish, monitor and achieve goals and objectives as set out in the corporate Strategic Plan and Community Programming and Outreach Services Business Plan and Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
- Ensure work is performed in a safe manner according to health and safety guidelines and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Sciences, Kinesiology, Child and Youth Care,



or Social Work or a related field with a minimum of two (2)+ years experience working with persons of all ages with a disability; Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of one (1)+ years experience working within an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion framework.
- A minimum of two (2)+ years of work experience in program development, implementation and evaluation, ideally within a municipal setting.
- Previous experience with recruitment, training, supervision/coaching and scheduling staff and volunteers.
- Strong leadership, clear and effective communication (written and oral), team building, organizational, conceptual and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding, knowledge and experience to plan, organize, direct and coordinate staff and volunteers to perform as a high functioning team.
- Demonstrated experience and certification in behaviour intervention and modification systems (NVCI, ABA, BMS, etc.).
- Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to effectively manage competing demands and conflicting priorities and issues.
- Possess critical thinking skills, sound decision making and a cooperative approach.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, policies and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively respond to emergency situations.
- A passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to delivering quality customer service.
- Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion.

What we will require:

- A Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City.
- Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualifications, if applicable.
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications.
- Ability and willingness to travel between worksites, as necessary, utilizing reliable, protected and efficient methods of transportation is required to perform the job.

- Hours of Work: Flexibility to work evening and weekends as needed is required.
