Position Overview

The Traditional Medicine Practitioner is responsible for ensuring that patients have access to culturally-grounded traditional medicines, assessments, and healing practices that support spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing.

The Traditional Medicine Practitioner provides traditional medicine knowledge, healing practices, teachings, and cultural guidance to clients, families, staff, and the Anishinabek communities served by Dilico. This role includes preparing and administering traditional medicines, supporting clients in healing, and working closely with the Health & Wellness Services teams to integrate traditional approaches with western health care where appropriate.

This full-time permanent position is not part of any bargaining unit. Travel throughout the district is required.

Qualifications & Requirements

- A combination of skills,



education and life learning specific to traditional knowledge will be considered. Preferred candidate has completed a post-secondary education program; preference in area of Indigenous Studies, Health or related Human Services with a minimum 3 years' experience in Traditional programming for children and their families.
- An individual who is of Anishinaabe ancestry with understanding, practice and sharing of Anishinaabe history, culture, traditions, ceremonies, and values is preferred.
- Preferred 3–5 years of experience developing and delivering cultural or traditional medicine programming. Experience supporting clients or communities in healing using traditional medicines and practices.
- satisfactory Criminal Records Search, Vulnerable Sector Search
- ability to work flexible schedule as determined by the Manager or designate in relation to service delivery requirements;
- must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
