Reporting to the Health and Wellness Manager, the Guest Attendant is responsible for supporting the independence, physical safety and overall wellbeing of each resident at Brighton Retirement Living.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. General Resident Care
- Support activities that promote the independence, dignity, physical safety and overall wellbeing of residents.
- Participate in daily communication meetings with senior management and colleagues.
- Assist with daily and monthly medical care (blood pressure, weight checks, etc.).
- Answer call bells when necessary; provide emergency first-aid until appropriate medical care is available.
- Assist with daily operations including resident admissions and discharges, as required.
- Monitor resident wellbeing and notify the Health and Wellness Manager of any resident and/or family concerns.
- Participate in Plan of Care meetings for residents and provide relevant feedback.
- Follow infection control measures (as per IPAC and organization’s policies) to enhance the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff.
- Other related duties, as directed by the Director of Care.
2. Risk Management and General Safety
- Partner with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies.
- Adhere to safety rules and regulations.
- Practice safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
- Report all accidents and incidents.
- Report all unsafe and hazardous conditions and/or equipment immediately.
- Comply with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
- Participate in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
3. Other
- Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Legacy Living policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Education
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification is preferred.
License, Registration, Training and Clearances
- Valid and unrestricted Class “G” driver’s license with access to reliable transportation.
- Police Record Check (per RHA), including Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Immunization(s) and tuberculosis (TB) testing, per Brighton Retirement Living’s policy.
Experience
- One (1) to two (2) years of work experience in healthcare and/or hospitality.
- Previous work experience in a retirement or long-term care environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of and empathy for the needs of seniors.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the health and wellness process.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
