Plant Manager (Batcher)
United Ready Mix is a rapidly growing ready-mix concrete company supplying concrete across the Greater Toronto Area. We are focused on supplying quality concrete, safely and on time at competitive prices.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Sales and Operations Manager, the Plant Manager is responsible for the accurate and efficient batching of ready-mix concrete in accordance with mix designs, production schedules, and the company’s Quality Assurance (QA) Program. The role involves operating the batching system, monitoring material inputs, coordinating with dispatch, drivers, loader operators and maintenance staff, and supporting the delivery of concrete products to customers.
Locations: 635031 ON-10, Orangeville, ON L9W 2Z1
Hours of Operations: 6am to 6pm (plus potential night and weekend shifts)
Wage rate: $27-$32 per hour
(Based on qualifications, experience and relevant skills)
Key Responsibilities:
Plant:
· Operate and monitor the batching plant to produce concrete mixes according to job specifications and established standards.
· Ensure proper calibration and accuracy of batching equipment (cement, water, aggregates, admixtures) as per the company’s QA Program.
· Adjust mix proportions based on environmental conditions or project requirements (e.g., hot weather, slump requirements) while adhering to the company’s QA Program.
· Working with the Loader Operator, coordinate daily activities to manage material inventory and support production requirements, and maintain a clean and organized yard.
· Manage boiler operation to maintain aggregate,
water and plant heating.
Labour:
· Supervise hourly labour and coordinate with dispatch, drivers to ensure on-time deliveries, dispatch when required.
· Assist operations in the supervision and coordination of the production employees, including non-productive hours, concrete blocks, truck cleaning, etc.
· Report any discrepancies or equipment malfunctions to maintenance staff and management ASAP.
· Actively promote a strong team environment through team collaboration and communication.
Administration:
· Maintain batch records, production logs, and required documentation as per the company’s QA Program.
· Coordinate C.O.D orders cash management with dispatch and drivers.
· Coordinate general administrative activities, including submission of attendance, timesheet records.
· Support hiring activities and training for hourly site personnel.
Health & Safety, and Environmental
· Follow company Health & Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
· Perform and document daily inspections and routine maintenance as per company policies and procedures.
· Ensure that all chemicals and materials are stored and handled in a safe and productive manner as per WHMIS standards and company policies.
· Report workplace incidents, near misses, and accidents which may involve personal injury or property damage as per company policies and procedures.
Qualification Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Experience in ready mix concrete production and construction industry.
· Able to perform heavy lifting >25kg.
· Able work both inside and outside, in the heat and cold, and around moving equipment, and at heights above four (4) feet.
· Be able to work irregular hours such as nights and weekend work.
· Proficient with Microsoft applications, specifically Excel and Word and batch software.
