EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
nTEMPORARY PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR 12 MONTH CONTRACT (UNION)n
The successful candidate will operate Town owned vehicles and equipment as per the procedures outlined in the Department’s Safety Manual and the Occupational Health and Safety Act in effort to maintain road allowances, properties, buildings and appurtenances of the Corporation as directed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
n
- Winter maintenance operations such as snow plowing, ice control, winter material application, sidewalk plowing and snow removal.
- Street and sidewalk sweeping operations.
- Grading operations of roads, shoulders, and laneways.
- Pothole repair using cold mix or hot mix asphalt.
- Assist the Utilities Division with the excavation and repair of water mains and sanitary sewer systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair storm sewer systems.
- Install, maintain and repair regulatory and informational traffic signs.
- Planting and maintenance of town trees. Spring/Fall collection of leaf and yard waste.
- Daily inspection of streets addressing cleanliness and recording damage or deficiencies to town infrastructure such as streetlights, traffic lights, bridges, signage, etc.
nQUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIESn
- Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma
- Possess and maintain a valid Class ‘D’ driver’s license with ‘Z’ endorsement.
- A minimum of 2 years relative road maintenance or road construction experience.
- Possess or willing to undertake training in WHMIS, First Aid, Chainsaw Safety, Working at Heights, Occupational Health and Safety, and Confined Spaces.
- Possess or become certified in the operation of, bucket truck, tractor backhoe, and mechanical sweeper.
- Knowledge of Minimum Maintenance Standards and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications would be an asset.
