The City of Airdrie has three standing committees comprised of select elected officials and citizen members to review and consider matters and make decisions within specific scopes and mandates.

These committees serve as specialized bodies that focus on certain areas of city governance. We are looking for one citizen member from the community to fill a volunteer position on our Community Safety and Social Services Standing Committee at the City of Airdrie.

This Committee is also the Emergency Advisory Committee in accordance with the Emergency Management Act. As a non-voting member of this Committee, you will help represent the community in Council decisions on a variety of topics. Term Length: 3 years Term Limit: 2 consecutive terms Reports to: Council Administrative: City Clerk,



Charlotte Satink The Community Safety and Social Services Standing Committee is responsible for policy matters and programs related to: • affordable housing; • corporate safety and security; • emergency management; • enforcement services; • fire services; • social planning; and • youth (non-recreation). RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Provide subject matter expertise in your field(s) to help and support our community. • Act as a contributor to committee discussions bringing your perspective and subject matter experience to assist and help inform the dialogue on policy matters and programs on important community issues and topics. • Provide Council with additional perspectives as a resident of the city with professional experience in some areas of the committee’s mandate at each committee meeting. • Develop and maintain successful, collaborative, and congenial relationships and partnerships with all stakeholders. • Attend and participate in Committee meetings as scheduled. • Abide by the Citizen Member Code of Conduct. YOU BRING: • An educational background, work experience and/or a professional designation related to the mandate of this committee. • Previous and/or current strategic board of directors experience for a private, public or non-profit organization. • Previous volunteer experience in the City of Airdrie would be an asset. • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and form collaborative relationships. • Ability to participate with diplomacy, confidentiality and independence in a proactive and responsive manner. • A passion to give back to the community by participating in the decision-making process and by providing guidance to the committee. OTHER INFORMATION & VOLUNTEER COMMITMENTS: • Meetings will be held in-person at City Hall in Airdrie at 400 Main St SE. • Members are expected to attend meetings in person, but accommodation to attend virtually can be made if required. • One meeting per month on a Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. for approximately 3 hours.

Meeting length is subject to the agenda size and complexity.

Members should expect to spend one to two hours reading and reviewing reports to prepare for the meetings. • Approximate time commitment: 5 to 10 hours per month. • Members must be available to attend meetings during regular business hours. • Meetings are streamed, recorded, and made available for viewing on the City’s website. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Eligibility • At least 18 years of age. • Current resident of the City of Airdrie. • Not be currently employed by the City of Airdrie or have been employed by the city within the last 12 months. • Not be a former City of Airdrie elected official within the last 12 months. • Willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement and obtain a satisfactory RCMP criminal record check. WE OFFER: Compensation rates: $120 for meetings that are 3 hours or less; or $150 for meetings that are longer than 3 hours.

Reimbursement rates for incidental expenses: meals for meetings that run longer than 5 hours, transit fare to attend a meeting and dependent care costs to attend a meeting up to $1,000 annually. NEXT STEPS: You are invited to apply online.
