Job order - J0226-0108 - Temporary Full Time Title Temporary Accounting Supervisor 9 (up to 2 years) Category Accounting & Finance City Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada Job Description Temporary Accounting Supervisor 9 (up to 2 years) Position Overview: Ensure that the City of Saint John’s financial controls are implemented in a manner that reflects the City’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction by providing leadership, guidance and direction to staff with regard to proper financial administration practices. This role will require a hands on approach in which the incumbent will demonstrate leadership and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities • Meet the Finance Department operational standards by implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements, including but not limited to Supervising Accounts Payables.
Accounts Receivables, Treasury and Accounting staff. • Meet Finance department standards by monitoring accounts, identifying variances, preforming account reconciliations; implementing corrective actions. • Collection of accounts by ensuring customers are contacted; investigate circumstances of non-payment; negotiation and resolving conflicts; expediting payment. • Ensure accurate, timely and valid payments to suppliers. • Accomplish human resource objectives by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, and communicating job expectations, adhering to policies and procedures, and performance for staff. • Maintain financial security by adhering to internal accounting controls. • Maintain accounting ledgers by ensuring accounts transactions are posted monthly. • Oversee data flow and the processes between the accounting system and accounting sub ledgers. • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential. • Support annual audit by performing annual audit requirements, providing information and answers to auditors. • Assist with month end and year end close processes. • Provide back up support for other areas in the Finance department. • Support the organization on special projects, initiatives and continuous improvement objectives.
Assist with day-to-day tasks as required to ensure the financial goals of the organization and management are met.

Essential Qualifications: Experience: • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory role • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting role and customer service Education: A university degree with a major or concentration in Accounting from a recognized institution, or equivalent program or have obtained all the required courses to meet that certification.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products and Navline related applications Excellent organizational, high prioritization skills Technical knowledge of accounting principles and practices Great attention to detail to carryout the task at hand thoroughly and with accuracy The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.

Formation: Un diplôme universitaire avec une spécialisation ou un champ d’études en comptabilité d’une institution reconnue, ou un programme équivalent, ou avoir complété tous les cours requis pour satisfaire aux exigences de cette certification.
Compétences techniques: Maîtrise des produits de la Suite Microsoft Office et des applications liées à Navline.
Excellentes compétences organisationnelles et capacité à hiérarchiser les priorités.
Bonne connaissance des principes et pratiques comptables.
Grande attention aux détails, permettant d’accomplir chaque tâche de manière approfondie et précise.
