gardenKitchener, or the Kitchener Horticultural Society (KHS), was established in 1872 and is 150 years old.

We promote horticultural and environmental awareness in Waterloo Region through a variety of activities for our 500+ members including garden tours, perennial exchanges, bulb sales, seminars & workshops, youth events, horticultural therapy programs, bus trips, and much more.

Rockway Gardens, 7 Floral Crescent, is a public Botanical Gardens run by the Kitchener Horticultural Society as the showpiece for the Kitchener Waterloo area. Established in the 1920s as place of beauty for locals to enjoy including six water features, a rock garden, perennial border and formal annual beds.

A team consisting of a supervisor, grower, lead hand, gardeners, planters, and laborers that design, propagate, plant, prune and nurture the grounds to present to the public the best representation of a formal Botanical and Victorian garden.

The Rockway team manages all aspects of Rockway Gardens, 7 Floral Crescent Kitchener, Ontario The team is accountable for the care and maintenance of the gardens, the grounds, the structures of the Gardens.



Part of the role is to answer any questions from the public who visit the gardens and be a visible representative of Kitchener Horticultural Society to visitors.

We are looking for an individual to join our team as a gardener. We take outstanding pride in our work here at Rockway and we are looking for the right candidate to help us be successful with our season.

Skills and experience required or beneficial for success in the position. The successful candidate must:

- Work well within a team environment
- Be detailed oriented and follow instructions
- A working knowledge of plant identification and care for these plants would be beneficial
- Be physically fit, capable of bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, digging and raking.
- A Driver’s License and own transportation to Rockway Gardens and off-sight Greenhouse
- This position requires 40 hours a week of physical labour.
- The incumbent will participate in all aspects of maintenance which may include:
- Spring clean-up, raking leaves, pruning, cleaning up debris, clean up ponds and fountains.
- Work at the greenhouse assisting the Grower in the spring
- Planting annuals
- Weeding and watering
- Fertilizing
- Pond maintenance including cleaning debris and removal of algae
- Garbage Pick up as needed
- Plant removal
- Mulching
- Installing approximately 20 000+ bulbs as a team

Job Type: Full-time Seasonal Contract

Work Start Date: Mid May

Work End Date: Mid November

Contract length: +5 months with possibility of return next season with positive performance
