Position: Coding Camp Counsellor - Flexible Arrangement

This summer, due to fluctuating camp registrations, we anticipate a variable schedule for our staff. While we are experiencing a last-minute surge in registrations, we cannot commit to a fixed schedule for each week at this time.

With this in mind, we are offering a flexible arrangement where the counsellor will be assigned to work either a half-day or a full day, Monday through Friday, depending on the camp registrations for each week. The full-day shift typically runs from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

While there may be weeks where the shifts may not required, it is probable that the counsellor will be working more than 50% of the time throughout the summer.

At Code Ninjas Richmond Hill, kids (age 5-14) learn to code while building video games they love. The mission of the business is to provide an educational computer programming facility and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning center that focuses on creative learning, problem-solving and technology in a secure, fun and positive environment to kids age 5 -14 in the local community of City of Richmond Hill.

We are looking for a STEM/Coding Camp Counsellor to join our team of dynamic, energetic, forward thinking minds, working toward our common goal: providing a fun and safe learning setting for children. Our staff is the lifeblood of our Code Ninjas center.

The job of a STEM/Coding Camp Counsellor involves supervision of kids ages 5 - 14 who attend summer STEM/Coding Camp with Code Ninjas Richmond Hill. The camps will be delivered in-person at the center. Counsellors will be responsible to deliver the camp curriculum and guide kids through STEM related activities with a strong focus on coding, video game development, 3D modeling and robotics. Other responsibilities include activity setup, supervising lunch break, cleanup, organizing activities, providing directions to campers to follow safety and health protocols. While working on-site for in-person camps,



the Counsellor will also coordinate activities to play with the campers. This includes playing with the latest STEM toys for the kids to play on-site to further develop STEM, teamwork and social skills and to balance screen time the kids spend with computers.

The Counsellor will provide support, coaching and encouragement to kids at the center. While the camps are focused on fun, kids also learn in a social setting where gaming is celebrated as kids gain confidence in coding, math, logic & problem solving. Through this experience, the job candidate will gain confidence, social interactions skills and become the leader and inspire the children within the classroom in-person. Camp Counsellors should be punctual, patient, friendly, reliable, creative, energetic and work well independently as well as in a group.

The Camp Counsellor who has a successful experience with Code Ninjas Richmond Hill, and is thinking of pursuing a career as a Coding Instructor after summer, could be retained by the employee at the conclusion of the employment term.

Detailed tasks include:

- Completing all required training - camp curriculum materials, abuse training, workplace safety training and abiding all policies, rules and regulations at the center
- Leading activities for a group of campers as assigned by Camp Director to implement a comprehensive, inclusive camp program; leading inquiry and discussion surrounding those activities
- Ensuring adequate planning & preparation for all camp activities
- Ensuring the activities start and finish on time
- Creating an enjoyable, positive and safe atmosphere in which students can grow, explore and have fun




- Lead by examples for campers by actively leading camper activities and showing an interest in each camper and already there ready to help for each camper as s/he works through activities
- Encouraging children to explore and create recent things with the skills they learn through the curriculum
- Modelling appropriate behavior and positive interactions in every session with campers and peers
- Ensuring that all campers in the camp are treated equally, consistently and fairly; zero tolerance to bully at the center
- Ensuring all campers follow workplace safety plan and all safety guidelines at the center for all in-person camps; ensuring adequate safety while facilitating activities
- Assuming the responsibility of leadership with consistent and specific direction in the supervision of campers
- Providing camp student summary or appropriate feedback to, and communication with parents or guardians whenever needed, and immediately when emergency contact with parents/guardian is required
- Cleaning dojo (classroom) throughout the day to ensure cleanliness is kept up to corporate standards and workplace safety plan
- Reporting daily to Camp Director with respect to day’s activities and productivity in dojo
- Carrying out other reasonable duty requests from Camp Director or any member of the Management Team

Must be fun to work with and like working in fast paced environments where requirements can change frequently
