Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN), has invested more than $100 million in cutting edge infrastructure, including a $27 million state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant, which plays a pivotal role in supporting our progressive development initiatives.
TFN’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) became operational in January 2016. The STP is classified as an EOCP Level III facility and is designed to treat up to 8,000 m3 of municipal wastewater daily. The facility uses Xylem’s proprietary Intermittent Cycle Extended Aeration System (ICEAS®) to produce effluent of re-use quality (greater exposure potential) and Class B biosolids, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship.
POSITION SUMMARY
As our community continues to flourish, Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) is seeking a reliable and motivated Temporary Labourer to support daily operations at the wastewater treatment plant and related utility systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, outdoor tasks, and contributing to essential community infrastructure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not considered as all inclusive.
- Assists Utilities Operators with routine inspections across utility systems.
- Check catch basins for debris and material buildup.
- Support hydrant maintenance, including backflow box setup and takedown.
- Perform general cleaning, organization of parts, and maintenance support.
- Carry out general labour duties as required.
- Assist with valve exercising activities.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Set up and maintain safe work sites in accordance with safety standards.
- Operate hand tools and small equipment safely and effectively.
- Conduct basic vehicle inspections.
- Follow all safe work procedures and supervisor direction.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment operation is an asset.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Physical labour including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to wastewater and utility environments.
- Chance to work in a learning environment with a supportive team.
HOURS OF WORK
- Hours of work are Monday to Friday with times scheduled based on operational needs.
COMPENSATION
- $26.94 to $28.62 per hour. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience and internal equity.
