Location: Tilbury Tots Early Learning Centre at École St. Francis Tilbury
Tilbury Tots Early Learning Centre is seeking a Full Time cook and the École St. Francis location. This position requires that the successful candidate has or is willing to get a current “Food Handlers” certificate. The cook is responsible for the day to day operations of preparing morning and afternoon snacks, as well as the daily lunch. As the cook, you should follow all Health Unit Guidelines. It is important to maintain the kitchen daily as health inspections are done on non-scheduled visits. It will be your responsibility to always be prepared. You must be knowledgeable with Canada’s Food Guide an excellent role mode of personal cleanliness and self- care.

Job Duties

- Develop and deliver food prepared for children
- Provide a safe kitchen environment
- Record necessary information e.g. food substitutions, fridge temps, and food temps, develop a weekly grocery list
- Be aware of food allergies, restrictions, and any children with Anaphylactic allergies
- Allergy/food restriction list posted in kitchen as well as children with anaphylactic
- Maintain and clean fridge/freezer, stove/oven, cupboards/counters, dishwasher and assist in housekeeping duties
- Menu’s to be kept for 30 days, if changes are made, post all substitutions,
- Current week’s menu and the following week menu to be posted
- Maintain good communication with staff, parent’s, and children
- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information
- Maintain adherence to all T.T.E.L.C. policies and procedures, including safety requirements
- Participate in any staff meetings
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis




- Be knowledgeable of any changes that occur with the Health Unit as well as CCEYA
- Regular or frequent requirement and as needed, to lift (up to 45 lbs)
- Manual dexterity required
- You must be accountable, we need to be insured that you are doing your job
- Develop instructions from parents with children that have allergies or food restrictions
- Maintain open, friendly relations with staff and families
- Continue attending workshops that may be provided through the health unit
- Demonstrate behaviour that is qualified, ethical, and responsible
- Assist with other duties as required
- Wear a hair net
- Develop grocery list for following week
- Menu suggestions to head cook

Requirements

- Current food handlers certificate (good for 5 years)
- Up to Date Immunizations
- Current 2 Step TB Skin Test
- Current First Aid/Infant/Child/CPR Level C
- Vulnerable Sector Check (issued within 6 months of employment)

Work Conditions

- Fast paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam and kitchen equipment
- Standing for extended periods of time and moving between different kitchen stations.
- Regular lifting of supplies up to 25-40lbs ingredients etc.
- Adherence to health and safety, food handling and sanitary standards
