Work Location: Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (Swimplex), 101 Father David Bauer Drive and Moses Springer Pool (summer only).

Hourly Rate: $21.81 ($23.24 effective April 1, 2026)

Number of Positions: Up to 30 (hired throughout 2026)

What you will do:

Reporting to the Manager of Aquatics in the Recreation Services Division, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Provide quality swimming lesson instruction and lifeguard services at the Waterloo Swimplex.
- Provide excellent customer service and interpersonal skills combined with a background in aquatics, Waterfit instruction and/or the Lifesaving Society Learn to Swim program.
- Act in compliance with Ontario Health Regulations, relevant legislation and operational guideline.
- Provide a high level of customer service.
- Assist in the operation of the waterslide, wading pools and splash pads.
- Provide assistance in accident prevention and public education.
- Provide a safe and clean pool area.

What you will bring:

(Please note: All certifications must be kept current throughout the application and hiring process):

- LSS Instructors and Swim Instructors.
- National Lifeguard Service.
- Standard First Aid & CPR C certification.
- A passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to delivering quality customer service.
- Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion.





What we will require:

- Aquatic skills will be screened prior to an interview.
- A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the city is required immediately upon hire.
- Maintain fitness level and certification in accordance to Lifesaving Society standard.
- Mandatory attendance to all staff training.
- Minimum age to work as an Instructor/Guard in Ontario is 15 years old.

- Hours: Adaptable schedules; some positions with day, evening and weekend shifts of 9-24 hours per week; some positions with day shifts working up to 35 hours per week, subject to seasonal programming demands.
