Step into a leadership role where your geoscience expertise and strategic insight will shape the future of Ontario's provincial geoscience mapping program. As the Geoscience Mapping Manager, you will oversee a diverse suite of field, office, and laboratory-based mapping, sampling, and inventory projects that directly inform land-use planning, public safety, infrastructure development, and mineral resource investment across the province. You'll lead a team of technical specialists, guide high-value geophysical and geochemical contracts, and ensure timely publication and dissemination of geoscience data that supports decision‑makers, industry partners, and communities. This is an opportunity to apply your scientific knowledge and project management skills to work that truly influences the province's environmental and economic priorities.
In this role, you'll also have the chance to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, academia, industry leaders, and government partners across Ontario and beyond. You will play a key role in modernizing geoscience practices by identifying emerging trends, enhancing program delivery, and representing Ontario at provincial, national, and international forums. As a valued member of a leadership team committed to inclusion, employee engagement, and respectful workplaces, you'll help shape a collaborative and forward‑thinking culture. If you're looking for a role that blends scientific leadership, field operations, strategic planning, and cross‐sector relationship‑building—while making an impact on the stewardship of Ontario's natural resources—this position is an exceptional next step.
Leadership That Makes a Difference At its core, leadership in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) is about creating positive change for people and communities across Ontario. We're looking for leaders who are authentic, accountable, and courageous. People who bring others together, ask bold questions, and lead with purpose.
About the job We believe great leadership starts with high standards and solid support. In the OPS, that means showing up with authenticity, acting with integrity, and having the courage to do what's right, even when it's hard.
As a leader, you'll shape a team culture that sparks innovation, supports collaboration, and champions inclusion. You'll help build a workplace that is diverse, anti‑racist, and accessible, where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.
You won't be doing it alone. We invest in our leaders through mentorship, learning opportunities, and cross‑ministry networks that help you grow your impact and connect with peers across the organization.
You will: Lead province‑wide geoscience projects by planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating field, office, and lab‑based mapping activities across Ontario.
Manage operational functions including budgeting, procurement,

asset management, contract oversight, and logistical needs such as aircraft and specialized equipment.
Supervise and develop technical teams by setting performance expectations, building capacity, supporting employee engagement, and fostering an inclusive and values‑based workplace.
Ensure high‑quality publication of geoscience data through timely release of maps, reports, and research findings for public, scientific, and industry audiences.
Coordinate stakeholder engagement with Indigenous communities, industry, government partners, academia, and contractors to support project planning and delivery.
Oversee major scientific contracts such as geophysical surveys, geochemical analyses, geochronology work, and drilling programs to ensure compliance and successful outcomes.
Apply risk management and safety practices to ensure safe, cost‑effective field operations, especially in remote and semi‑remote environments.
Represent the geoscience program on committees, at conferences, and in interjurisdictional forums to share findings, collaborate, and identify emerging scientific trends.
Your ability to align your team's efforts with broader organizational goals will be key to your success, and to the success of the people we serve.
Meet Your New Team The Earth Resources and Geoscience Mapping Section is at the heart of Ontario's efforts to understand and responsibly manage the province's rich geological resources. This team leads exciting, province‑wide mapping and sampling projects—both in the field and in the lab—that directly support land use planning, public safety, infrastructure development, and sustainable mineral exploration. Their work ensures the government, industry, and communities have access to high‑quality geoscience data that informs smart decisions across Ontario.
What makes this section unique is its collaborative, outward‑facing approach. Team members work closely with Indigenous communities, industry experts, academia, and government partners to advance cutting‑edge geoscience initiatives and build meaningful relationships. From overseeing major scientific contracts to driving the publication of new geological insights, the section plays a vital role in shaping how Ontario understands and stewards its natural resources. It's a dynamic environment where scientific curiosity, public service, and real‑world impact come together.
What you bring to the team Lead and develop teams by setting expectations, supporting engagement, and fostering an inclusive, values‑based work environment.

and identifying training or staffing needs.
Guide organizational planning by contributing to business plans, resource forecasts, and strategic program direction.

Ensure scientific integrity by using sound research methods, technical practices, and quality control.
