Your Opportunity:

The Modality RN provides education to patients including a nursing assessment of past health history, current health status, learning needs, self-care ability and values and beliefs around health care issues and kidney treatment options. The role requires the RN to provide formal, provincially standardized education for patients about Renal Replacement therapies including Kidney Transplant, Home Peritoneal Dialysis, Home Hemodialysis, Shared Care, In-Centre Hemodialysis and Conservative Kidney Management. The Modality RN will be required to provide renal replacement therapy education in a variety of formats including in-person teaching, Zoom, telephone, group teaching and providing education in office to multiple Alberta Kidney Care (AKC) North locations including Edmonton and North Zone. The RN also participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives throughout AKC-North. Requirement for RN to participate in program meetings to support modality teaching for all AKC-North Kidney patients. This position is based in the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, but it will include travel.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe,



quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years,



you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current CRNA registration and Basic Cardiac Life Support-Health Care Provider. BScN required. Vehicle Requirement for Travel to Edmonton and North Zone Alberta Kidney Care Sites. Minimum of 3-5 years recent nephrology nursing experience (within 1 year) required including Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic, Diabetes Nephropathy Clinic, Home Peritoneal Dialysis, Home Hemodialysis, Shared Care or Hemodialysis. Demonstrated ability in providing adult patient education. Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with high patient volumes. Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written. Demonstrated patient assessment skills. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and assist with transfer of patients. Must be able to push bariatric patients in a wheelchair. Must be able to type on a keyboard for extended periods of the workday. Must be able to wear masks (including N95) as teaching will be required for patients in AKC-North including incenter and satellite hemodialysis units. Must be able to provide education for patients up to 120 minutes without breaks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in the CKD clinic. Previous experience providing formal Renal Replacement therapy education. Connect Care Experience.
