Job Details The City of St.

Albert is recruiting individuals to join our Public Operations or Engineering Services department as a Casual Labourer.

Under the direction of the respective Team Lead, this position will be responsible for performing manual labour, using simple hand and/or power tools, and operating motorized municipal light-duty equipment in a proper and protected manner.

Responsibilities Performing maintenance and operations work across multiple municipal service areas that may include roads, trails, sidewalks, parks, green spaces, playgrounds, City facilities, water/wastewater/stormwater systems, turf and landscaping, arena operations, waste management facilities (recycling, composting, solid waste), litter control, and graffiti removal (placement may vary based on area).

Supporting fleet shop duties, sign and signal maintenance, and special community events.

Operating light-duty equipment that may include lawn mowers (ride-on, self-propelled, push types), landscaping tools (sod cutters, trimmers, rototillers, backpack blowers), and concrete equipment (screed equipment, plate tampers).

Working at diverse locations throughout the community including City facilities, utility sites, parks and green spaces, roadways, waste management operations, and special events.





Following all safety procedures, participating in hazard assessments and worksite inspections, attending safety meetings, and contributing to incident investigations.

Qualifications Completion of grade 10 or equivalent, a high school diploma or GED is an asset.

Must hold a valid Class 5 driver''s license with fewer than six (6) demerit points and provide a current driver''s abstract.

Some related experience performing manual labour tasks and light-duty hand operated equipment is an asset.

Must be physically capable of performing assigned duties including repeatedly lifting and carrying loads up to 50 pounds throughout an 8-hour shift, shoveling dirt for 20 minutes at a time, and performing repetitive tasks for 1 hour or more.

Ability to understand and respond to verbal and written instructions.

Current Basic First Aid certification is an asset.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Hours of Work The hours of work may vary by position but is a generally full-time opportunity (40 hours per week).

May work various shifts and on weekends.

Compensation The wage ranges from $18.43 - $21.42 per hour based on the collective agreement rates.

Term This is a casual position starting in May to October 2026.

Conditions of Employment This position is represented by the

Union CUPE 941, and the terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between the Union and The City of St.

Albert.

The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.

Please note that the presence of charges or convictions does not automatically preclude an individual from being considered for employment.

All findings will be reviewed and assessed in relation to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver''s License and clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 5 demerits is required, as this position involves driving City vehicles.
