About the Opportunity
Our client is an established engineered manufacturer of power distribution and cable bus systems, running a busy, highly utilized fabrication facility in Delta, BC. They are hiring a Plant Manager to lead their Canadian operations.
This is the senior-most role in Canada. You will run day-to-day plant operations, represent the Canadian entity, and work alongside U.S.-based leadership to keep the plant safe, productive, and improving. Strong production systems, reporting tools, and standard procedures are already in place, giving you a solid foundation to build on.
If you are a hands-on manufacturing leader who is firm but fair, operationally disciplined, and motivated by measurable gains in throughput, cost, quality, and team performance, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Do
Lead Plant Operations
- Lead daily operations across fabrication, assembly, material flow, and shipping and receiving.
- Drive safety, quality, and throughput while optimizing labour productivity and resource use.
- Oversee scheduling, production planning, and workflow to increase output without major capital expansion.
- Manage plant budgets, labour costs, and KPIs, and identify practical, cost-effective improvements.
Systems Continuity and Process Improvement
- Maintain, administer, and build on the digital production management systems, reporting tools, and standard operating procedures already in place.
- Keep systems and processes accurate, documented, actively used, and transferable.
- Apply lean principles, workflow improvements, and practical automation, including technology and AI-assisted tools where they deliver measurable value.
- Reduce bottlenecks, rework, and scrap, and improve plant layout, material flow, and housekeeping.
Build a Strong Team and Culture
- Lead with clear expectations that build accountability, trust, and a respectful, stable work environment.
- Develop supervisors and lead hands, and strengthen communication and team engagement.
- Build effective working relationships with union representatives and employees.
- Champion safety, quality, continuous improvement, and cross-training.
Cross-Border Collaboration
- Work closely with U.S.-based executives who provide functional guidance, standards, and processes.
- Keep Canadian operations aligned with company strategy and report on plant performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Take part in cross-functional initiatives across engineering, procurement, finance, and product teams.
Canadian Compliance and Representation
- Oversee compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal requirements for manufacturing, labour, safety, and the setting.
- Represent the Canadian entity to local authorities, external agencies, and regulatory bodies.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and keep reporting and documentation accurate.
Import and Distribution Oversight
- Oversee inbound logistics, customs coordination, and importation for white-label cable products.
- Ensure accurate inventory control, warehouse management, and order fulfilment.
- Strengthen supplier relationships to support product quality and delivery reliability.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, including 5+ years in plant management,
ideally in light fabrication and assembly in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in a unionized environment, including building collaborative relationships with union representatives and participating in labour relations discussions.
- Proven ability to lead teams in high-utilization plants where throughput and efficiency gains come from process, people, and workflow improvements.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, material flow, and quality performance in manual or semi-manual environments.
- Experience maintaining and improving digital production management and reporting systems, and leading technology implementation projects.
- Financial acumen including budgeting, cost control, profitability, labour management, inventory optimization, and KPI management.
- A balanced leadership style: you hold teams accountable while maintaining trust, fairness, and consistency.
- Solid understanding of Canadian regulatory requirements (labour, safety, environmental, import/export).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with U.S.-based executives.
- Experience with import/distribution or warehouse operations is an asset.
Education (Preferred)
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Operations Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Project Management, or Supply Chain Management are assets.
