Barista – Blue Collar Coffee
Location: Parksville, BC
Employment Type: Part-time / Full-time (depending on availability)
About Blue Collar Coffee
Blue Collar Coffee is all about bringing amazing coffee to the working class and those travelling up Island. Located in a coffee trailer out front of Parksville Home Building Centre, we're passionate about serving quality coffee, doing things right, and creating a welcoming experience for everyone who stops by.
We're looking for someone who appreciates great coffee, takes pride in the little details, and enjoys an independent, relaxed work environment. We believe work should be enjoyable, and we want to create an environment where our employees feel trusted, valued, and happy to show up.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced, detail-oriented barista with a passion for third-wave coffee and a valuable understanding of specialty espresso.
This is an independent position, so you'll need to be comfortable running the trailer on your own, managing your time, and taking ownership of your workspace. You'll be responsible for everything from pulling great espresso shots to keeping the trailer clean, organized, and running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the coffee trailer independently.
- Operating the POS system and handling customer transactions.
- Preparing high-quality espresso-based drinks and other menu offerings.
- Dialling in espresso each morning and making adjustments throughout the day to maintain consistency and quality.
- Demonstrating a solid understanding of specialty coffee, espresso extraction, milk steaming,
and proper drink preparation.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming workspace.
- Managing grey water disposal and other day-to-day trailer maintenance responsibilities.
- Communicating and coordinating with our commissary kitchen to ensure adequate stock and supplies.
- Monitoring inventory and letting us know when items need replenishing.
- Providing friendly, genuine customer service.
What We're Looking For
- Previous third-wave or specialty coffee experience is strongly preferred.
- A genuine appreciation for quality coffee and attention to detail.
- Understanding of espresso preparation, extraction, and dialling in.
- Previous customer service or hospitality experience is an asset.
- Comfortable working independently and making decisions throughout your shift.
- Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated.
- Own transportation is required.
- Comfortable with the practical, hands-on responsibilities of working in a mobile coffee trailer.
- Someone who takes pride in their work without needing constant supervision.
A Great Perk: You Keep 100% of Your Tips!
We believe great work deserves to be rewarded. Every dollar in tips earned during your shift goes directly to you.
You keep 100% of the tips you make on the days you work. No complicated tip-outs or splitting with management. Your hard work and great customer service should pay off!
A Little About Our Work Environment
We want to be upfront about the kind of workplace we're building because we think the right fit matters just as much as experience.
We're pretty laid-back bosses. We trust our employees to do their jobs, take responsibility, and keep things running smoothly. If the tasks are done, the space is clean, and everything is ready for the next rush, we're not going to invent busy work just to keep you occupied.
Bring a book, enjoy a quieter moment, have a coffee, and make yourself comfortable when things slow down. We're not interested in micromanaging. We want someone who cares about what they do and enjoys having the independence to do it well.
At the end of the day, we want this to be a fun, rewarding job that works well for the people who work here. Happy employees make great coffee and create great experiences for our customers.
Interested?
If you love specialty coffee, appreciate a little independence, and want to be part of a small business that genuinely cares about quality and its people, we'd love to hear from you!
Send us your resume and a little bit about yourself. We'd love to meet you!
