Clinical Counsellor (RCC or CCC)
Harbour Family Counselling | Saanich, BC
Independent contractor | Primarily in person
Harbour Family Counselling is looking for one to two counsellors with demonstrated clinical competence and additional training in one or more of these areas:
- Couples counselling
- Family counselling
- Child and teen counselling
- Parent counselling and guidance
You do not need to practise in all four areas. We’re interested in the depth of experience you bring, the clients you work best with, and how your strengths could complement our collaborative team. Individual counselling may also form part of your caseload.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re a family-focused practice near University Heights in Saanich. Our work helps people understand relationship patterns, listen to one another, strengthen connection, and find collaborative ways forward.
This opportunity suits clinicians who are ready to practise independently and value consultation, shared learning, and thoughtful collaboration with colleagues.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Couples counselling
Help partners understand recurring patterns, navigate conflict, strengthen connection, and work through transitions. Relevant training may include Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT/EFCT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, or another established couples approach.
Family counselling
Facilitate sessions with multiple family members, including children and teens with caregivers, adult children with parents, siblings, and other family relationships. We value a family systems perspective and the ability to actively guide conversations and manage complex emotional dynamics.
Relevant training may include systemic family therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy through ICEEFT, or Emotion-Focused Family Therapy associated with Adele Lafrance.
Child and teen counselling
Provide developmentally appropriate support for children and adolescents, with thoughtful caregiver involvement and clear consent and confidentiality practices.
We particularly welcome experience with Child-Centred Play Therapy, developmentally adapted CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, and DBT for adolescents. Formal play therapy certification is an asset, but is not required.
Clinicians with relevant DBT experience may have opportunities to contribute to our developing teen DBT program, including potential co-facilitation, depending on experience and program needs.
Parent counselling and guidance
Support parents and caregivers in understanding their children’s needs, responding to emotional and behavioural challenges, strengthening relationships, and developing collaborative ways forward.
Experience with emotion coaching, relationship repair, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy associated with Adele Lafrance is especially welcome. This work aligns with our Chaos to Calm parent support program.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
- A welcoming and newly renovated counselling office with multiple rooms.
- An intake coordinator who helps match clients with counsellors.
- An operations manager who handles insurance direct billing and office administration, with billing and payment processing support.
- Jane booking and charting access and a professional email address.
- A website profile and practice marketing.
- Regular professional development opportunities through monthly team meetings, with participation expected as part of the role.
- Optional peer consultation time every two weeks to discuss cases, share perspectives, and receive feedback. These sessions are consultation rather than clinical supervision.
- Clinical autonomy, with opportunities to collaborate around family care with appropriate consent and clear clinical roles.
COMPENSATION AND AVAILABILITY
Counsellor compensation is:
- $96 per completed 50-minute individual session.
- $114 per completed 50-minute couples or family session.
- $171 per completed 80-minute couples or family session.
These are payments per completed session, rather than an hourly wage.
We’re looking for at least 10 available client appointment hours per week to start, with the intention of building toward approximately 15 across three weekly shifts as your caseload develops.
Shifts are organized into six-hour office blocks, allowing approximately five client appointment hours alongside preparation, notes, and breaks. Available appointment hours do not guarantee booked sessions.
We’ll agree on a consistent schedule based on client needs, your availability, and room availability. After-school, evening, and/or weekend availability is an asset. Work is primarily in person,
with virtual sessions where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold current Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) registration with BCACC or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) certification with CCPA, in good standing.
We’re looking for:
- Demonstrated clinical competence and relevant additional training in at least one of the practice areas above.
- Readiness to practise independently, with sound clinical judgment.
- A family systems perspective and respect for diverse identities, cultures, abilities, relationships, and family structures.
- Thoughtful management of consent, confidentiality, safety, and qualified boundaries.
- Openness to consultation, feedback, shared learning, and collaboration.
