Personal Support Worker - Port Credit, Mississauga - CAD$243.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman living in a retirement home's independent living sector in Mississauga. She has Alzheimer's disease and experiences increased agitation and confusion during evening hours, which is common with this condition. While she remains lucid for much of the day, evenings require consistent support from someone she recognizes and trusts. She is hard of hearing and does not wear hearing aids, so clear communication is essential. She does not wander but benefits from encouragement to walk around the residence or outdoor grounds. The goal is to provide quality companionship and support that helps maintain her calm and quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent evening companionship and support during periods of agitation or confusion
- Use proven strategies to redirect and calm the client when she expresses confusion about her surroundings
- Encourage light physical activity, including walks within the residence or on the grounds when weather permits
- Engage the client in cognitive activities such as conversation, puzzles, or coloring
- Assist with light meal prep, laundry, and housekeeping as needed
- Maintain transparent, patient communication given the client's hearing challenges
- Build trust and familiarity through consistent presence
What We're Looking For:
- Certified PSW with demonstrated experience supporting individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease
- Strong understanding of dementia-related behaviors, particularly evening agitation and confusion
- Excellent communication skills with clear,
easily understood English (essential due to client's hearing impairment)
- Patient, compassionate personality with proven ability to use redirection and calming techniques
- Reliable and committed to consistency, as familiarity is crucial for this client
- Own vehicle preferred for commuting to Mississauga location
Schedule:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM (9 hours per week total). Ongoing care anticipated for three months or longer, with potential to start in December.
