Summary

As an AV / Low-Voltage Estimator, you will prepare estimates and pricing for residential and commercial AV and low-voltage projects. Your impact: Clear, well-founded estimates help clients understand project costs and help the team plan solutions that fit their needs.

Responsibilities

- Review architectural, electrical, AV, security, and low-voltage drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents.
- Prepare accurate project estimates for equipment, materials, labour, programming, engineering, freight, rentals, and other project-related costs.
- Develop pricing for Audio Visual, structured cabling, security, access control, surveillance, automation, and related low-voltage systems.
- Review tender requirements and ensure all required scope is included in the estimate.
- Identify exclusions, assumptions, risks, scope gaps, and potential change-order exposure before submission.
- Assist with value engineering and alternative product selections when required.
- Conduct a complete handoff of awarded projects, including scope, drawings, equipment, labour assumptions, vendor quotations, and project-specific risks.
- Support pricing for Change Orders and additional work during active projects.
- Maintain organized estimating records and supporting documentation for future project review and profitability analysis.

Qualifications

- Previous estimating experience in Audio Visual, Low Voltage, Security, Electrical, Telecommunications,



or a related construction technology field.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Experience preparing material and labour takeoffs.
- Understanding of commercial construction project workflows.
- Strong knowledge of AV and/or low-voltage equipment and installation practices.
- Ability to evaluate project scope and identify missing or unclear requirements.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating/project management software.
- Previous estimating experience in Audio Visual, Low Voltage, Security, Electrical, Telecommunications, or a related construction technology field.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with D-Tools Cloud, D-Tools SI, or similar AV estimating software.
- Experience working with commercial AV integration projects.
- Familiarity with systems such as Crestron, Q-SYS, Extron, Control4, access control, CCTV, networking, and structured cabling.
- Experience preparing estimates for public-sector, institutional, commercial, or construction tender projects.
- Understanding of gross margin, labour costing, subcontractor pricing, freight, and project profitability.
- Experience reviewing consultant specifications and responding to RFQs/RFPs.
