Castlegar

Apprentice to Red Seal / Site Lead | $22–$45/hour | Castlegar, BC

We believe great construction starts with great people. We're looking for teammates who take pride in their work, support those around them, and believe there's always something new to learn.

Come Build With Us!

Horvath Contracting is looking to welcome a new carpenter to our team, and we're keeping our options open when it comes to experience.

Whether you're an apprentice developing your skills, an experienced carpenter who knows their way around a job site, or a seasoned qualified with leadership experience, we'd love to hear from you. We're more interested in finding the right person than filling a specific title.

Our work includes large renovations, custom homes, and ICF foundations throughout the West Kootenays. If you enjoy the variety of residential construction, like solving problems, and appreciate that no two projects are quite the same, you'll likely enjoy the work we do.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys being part of a team, and brings a positive, adaptable attitude to the job site.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will depend on your experience and skill level, but may include:

- Residential renovations, framing, foundations, and general carpentry
- Demolition, site preparation, material handling, and construction support
- Reading plans, taking measurements, and completing work to project specifications
- Safely operating hand tools, power tools, and equipment appropriate to your experience
- Working alongside carpenters and other trades across a variety of residential projects
- Problem-solving and adapting to the unique challenges of renovation work
- Maintaining safe, clean, and organized job sites
- Supporting less experienced team members and sharing knowledge, where appropriate

For experienced carpenters and potential site leaders, we're particularly interested in those with leadership abilities, experience coordinating apprentices and subcontractors, knowledge of excavation, footings and foundations, or experience operating heavy equipment.

What We're Looking For

- Previous hands-on construction or renovation experience, whether professionally or through personal projects
- Familiarity with construction tools, techniques, and job site safety appropriate to your experience level
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record
- Reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to job sites throughout the West Kootenays
- Comfortable making Castlegar your regular work base on a long-term basis

- An appreciation for variety, problem-solving, and the changing demands of residential construction
- Dependability, accountability, and a strong work ethic
- Clear communication, mutual respect, and the ability to work well with different personalities
- A positive, adaptable attitude and a willingness to help wherever needed
- Physical ability to perform construction work in varying conditions
- Ability to read and understand written procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with guidance where needed

Additional assets: Red Seal certification, leadership experience, truck and trailer experience, equipment operation, and experience with foundations, excavation, or footings. We hire for attitude first. While construction experience is important, we believe technical skills continue to develop throughout a career. We place the greatest value on reliability, accountability, professionalism, and a genuine willingness to learn. Those are the qualities we look for in every member of our team.

What It's Like to Work Here

Construction is a team effort, and we believe the best work happens when everyone—from apprentices to ownership—is working toward the same goal.

We're a close-knit crew that values open communication, mutual respect, accountability, and a good sense of humour. We work hard, help each other out, and believe that being a great teammate matters just as much as being good at your trade.

When you join Horvath Contracting, you can expect:

- Competitive wages of $22–$45/hour, based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities
- Health benefits after successfully completing your probationary period
- Weekly toolbox meetings where everyone has an opportunity to contribute ideas, ask questions, and improve how we work
- Open communication between field staff, project management, office staff, and ownership
- Involved owners who are approachable, supportive, and invested in our projects and people
- A strong office team that supports our field crews and helps keep projects organized
- Meaningful responsibilities and opportunities to make a difference from day one
- Opportunities for growth, whether you're developing your carpentry skills,

expanding your knowledge, or taking on leadership responsibilities
- Variety in your work, with opportunities to contribute to different types of residential construction projects
- A company committed to quality workmanship, professionalism, and continuous improvement

We're proud of the team we've built and want to continue creating a workplace where people feel supported, enjoy what they do, and take pride in what they accomplish together.
