About Bloom Academy
Bloom Academy is a growing online learning community offering engaging tutoring and enrichment classes for kids and teens. We partner with passionate, specialized instructors who help students build confidence, sharpen creative and technical skills, and develop genuine curiosity in a warm, supportive environment.
Our teachers are the heart of what we do — and we're looking for the next great one to join us.
The Opportunity
We're hiring a knowledgeable and engaging Chemistry & Biology Instructor to teach live online science classes and tutoring, for middle and high school students. Depending on your strengths, this could include conceptual and high school chemistry and biology, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, IB sciences, and foundational middle school science.
AP exam preparation is an important part of this role — we have students who want focused help getting ready for AP Chemistry and AP Biology exams, so experience coaching students toward strong exam results is a real asset.
We're looking for instructors who can make science feel clear, approachable, and genuinely interesting — especially for students who find it intimidating.
This is an independent contractor role (not an employee position).
What You'll Do
- Teach live, interactive online chemistry and biology classes and one-on-one tutoring for middle and high school students — and, during the summer (June–August), summer classes and camps that typically run from mornings to late afternoon
- Help students build strong conceptual understanding alongside problem-solving and exam skills
- Prepare students for AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and other standardized exams, including content review, practice, and exam strategy
- Break down challenging science concepts clearly in age-appropriate, engaging ways
- Teach one-on-one lessons and/or small-group classes of approximately 2–5 students
- Create a positive, structured, and encouraging virtual classroom
- Adapt lessons to each student's level, learning style, and goals
- Provide thoughtful feedback that helps students build confidence and skill
What We're Looking For
- Engaging and clear on camera — able to make a challenging subject approachable and keep students motivated
- Strong knowledge of chemistry and/or biology, with experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring at the high school level
- Experience with AP exam preparation (AP Chemistry and/or AP Biology) is a strong plus; IB experience is also welcome
- A degree in chemistry, biology, a related science, or a related field, or current study toward one
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, or mentoring kids and/or teens
- Clear, warm communicator
- Reliable, organized, and professional
- Comfortable helping students who may be struggling or need extra support
- The ability to teach additional subjects (academic or otherwise) is a plus — many of our instructors wear more than one hat
- Experience creating project-based lessons or curriculum is a plus

Application question(s):
- Do you have experience teaching or mentoring kids and/or teens? Please describe.
- What is your experience teaching chemistry and/or biology? Please be specific about the levels and curricula you've taught (e.g., conceptual science, high school chemistry/biology, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, IB) and the ages you've worked with.
- Do you have experience with AP exam preparation? If so, which exams (e.g., AP Chemistry, AP Biology)?
- Beyond chemistry and biology, are there other subject areas — academic or otherwise — that you also teach or would be comfortable teaching (for example physics or other sciences)? Many of our instructors teach across more than one subject, so we'd love to know everything you bring.
- Are you comfortable teaching small-group classes of approximately 2–5 students, as well as one-on-one sessions?
- Please give us your current weekly availability — actual days and time blocks. For example: "Mondays and Wednesdays 3–7pm, Saturdays 9am–1pm." Please list specific windows you could realistically commit to each week throughout the year.
- Please give us your summer availability (June–August) — again as specific days and time blocks. Summer is a busy season for our classes, so we want to know what you could commit to.
- Our school year runs September through the end of August. Can you commit to this role for a full year (September–August)?
- Based on the posted rate for this role, if you have a specific hourly rate expectation, please share it here.
- Please include a link to your LinkedIn profile, personal website, portfolio, or other relevant professional page.
- Please include a short intro video (a link is fine — YouTube, Loom, Google Drive, etc.) answering: What is your teaching background, what experience do you have with young learners, and why would you be a strong fit for this role? A video is strongly preferred.
- Is there anything else you'd like to share that helps demonstrate your experience or suitability for this role?
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (required)
Experience:
- Teaching: 1 year (preferred)
