Job Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within assigned buildings and surrounding areas. This position includes routine cleaning duties as well as light maintenance tasks to ensure facilities remain functional and presentable.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, offices, and common areas
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles
- Dust furniture, fixtures, vents, and equipment
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
- Replenish restroom and facility supplies
- Follow proper procedures for chemical handling and storage
- Light Maintenance (mow lawn, replace light bulbs, minor plumbing repairs, touch up painting)
Safety & Compliance
- Follow safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ensure walkways and entrances are free of hazards
- Respond promptly to spills or urgent maintenance issues
Qualifications
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and light repair techniques
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
