About Maddison Construction Limited
Maddison Construction Limited (MCL) is a locally owned construction company serving the National Capital Region. We specialize in general contracting, structural restoration and full building envelope work across the industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) and multi-unit residential sectors. Our work is grounded in safety, quality, efficiency and clear communication.
The Role
Our crews should never wait on the shop. That's this job. You run the tools, fleet, equipment, consumables and logistics that keep our general contracting, restoration and building envelope crews moving. Every shop request comes through you, every asset is tracked, the fleet stays legal and maintained, and the shop, yard and fuel station meet our safety standard every day.
A lot of companies call this seat shop foreman. Ours carries a budget, a fleet and a direct report, so the title is Equipment and Logistics Manager. You report to the Director of Operations and supervise the Driver/Shop Assistant. The role is based at our shop and yard at 74 Bentley Avenue, Monday to Friday, with an early start (the shop opens at 6:30 am). Target start is mid-January 2027, with a two-month handover from the current manager.
Responsibilities
Requests and dispatch
- Triage and fulfil every Corfix shop request (consumables, team help, vehicles and equipment). Keep the shop inbox as the channel of record and confirm each day's requests by a set time.
- Own the MCL Fleet Calendar, the driver schedule in QuickBooks Time, and all key and fuel-card issue. Check every driver against the Authorized Drivers Schedule before keys go out.
- Schedule and supervise the Driver/Shop Assistant: mobilizations, deliveries, pickups and waste runs, with the next day's schedule out by 2:00 pm.
Tools, equipment and inventory
- Own Hilti ON!Track. Register, assign, transfer, repair and audit every tracked asset, and train site supervisors on transfers and returns.
- Run stocked consumables inventory with a weekly count and one consolidated order per vendor.
- Run the tool reconciliation at every project closeout and chase anything that didn't come back.
- Source and complete approved purchases of tools, equipment and vehicles, then tag and register each one on receipt.
Fleet maintenance and compliance
- Keep the Vehicle and Equipment Register current. Run preventive maintenance,
annual safety inspections, MTO renewals and CVOR compliance.
- Review vehicle binders, book minor repairs and red-tag major defects so nothing unsafe leaves the yard.
Budget and reporting
- Approve shop invoices weekly and code every one to a job, a unit or shop overhead.
- Keep spend inside the monthly shop budget. Report budget against actual and the shop KPIs to the Director of Operations by the 5th business day of each month.
Health, safety and security
- Open and close the shop and yard on the daily checklist, and complete the fuel station check before the first dispense.
- Hold health, safety, environmental and security authority over the shop, yard and fuel station, and act as Spill Response Lead.
- Manage gate, FOB, key and container-code access.
- Keep the shop competency record for equipment and ON!Track sign-offs, and orient contractors and temporary staff before they touch anything.
- Keep the Shop and Logistics Operations Manual and forms register current.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Three or more years in a construction shop, fleet or equipment role.
- Working knowledge of general construction and restoration tools and equipment.
- A valid Ontario G licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Working knowledge of CVOR, MTO and commercial vehicle inspection requirements.
- Comfort with Outlook, Excel and asset-tracking software.
- Current WHMIS and First Aid, or the willingness to get them on hire.
- Organized and service-minded, and comfortable holding senior field staff to the process.
- The ability to safely handle the physical side of shop, yard and loading work, including regularly lifting and moving tools and materials up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
Preferred Qualifications
- A DZ or AZ licence.
- Hilti ON!Track experience.
- Experience with Corfix, QuickBooks Time or similar field systems.
- Supervisory experience in a shop or yard.
- Familiarity with swing stage, scaffold and restoration access equipment.
- Fuel station or spill response experience.
Work Environment You're based in our shop and yard, with regular coordination with field teams and local site visits. Several active projects will pull at you at once, so the daily checklists and the Fleet Calendar keep the day on track. Expect loading, lifting, driving, and exposure to vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, fuel, dust, noise and Ottawa weather.
