Overview

Planet Engineering Inc. (PLANET) is seeking an experienced Manager to lead our Inspection & Testing Group. Based in Mississauga and serving projects across the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions, PLANET provides geotechnical, hydrogeological, environmental, and construction inspection and materials testing services.

This position combines technical leadership, staff supervision, project coordination, and business development. The successful candidate will oversee field inspection and laboratory testing operations, maintain quality standards, and build strong relationships with clients and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the group’s daily operations, including staffing, scheduling, equipment, and project delivery.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop field technicians, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
- Coordinate construction inspection and testing services, including concrete testing, soil and asphalt compaction testing, footing inspections, and reinforcing steel inspections.
- Oversee laboratory testing and maintain applicable CCIL certification and quality management requirements.
- Review field reports, laboratory results, and technical deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Provide technical guidance and coordinate with PLANET’s geotechnical engineers on field observations, deficiencies, and recommendations.
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and budgets; monitor project performance and invoicing.




- Maintain client relationships, respond to service inquiries, and develop new business opportunities.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure staff follow company health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

- Degree or diploma in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction engineering technology, or a related discipline.
- At least ten years of relevant construction inspection and materials testing experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt testing, including applicable CSA, ASTM, and Ontario Provincial Standards.
- Experience with CCIL-certified laboratory operations, quality assurance procedures, and certification audits.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff, coordinate multiple projects, and respond effectively to changing construction schedules.
- Robust communication, technical reporting, organizational, and client service skills.
- Experience preparing proposals, managing budgets, and supporting business development.
- P.Eng. registration in Ontario or C.E.T. designation is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Pay: $50,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
