Personal Support Worker (PSW) – Private Residence

Location: Private residence in Barrhaven East, Ottawa (near Prince of Wales Drive)

Position Type: Part-time, mornings (approximately 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; 2.5-3 hours per shift)

Start Date: Immediately or as mutually agreed uponCompensation: Hourly rate, negotiable based on experience

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide morning in-home care and assistance to two seniors in a private residence.

The ideal candidate will help with morning routines and activities of daily living while promoting independence, dignity, comfort, and safety in a supportive, family-oriented environment.

One of the seniors has advanced Parkinson’s disease, resulting in significantly reduced mobility and very slow movement. He requires consistent, hands-on assistance from one person to safely mobilize and navigate throughout the home. Experience and confidence in supporting individuals with significant mobility limitations are key.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with morning personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Assist with getting clients out of bed and preparing for the day.
- Provide hands-on assistance with mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation.
- Assist with preparing and serving breakfast and provide feeding assistance as required.
- Provide medication reminders and assistance in accordance with established care instructions.
- Offer companionship, reassurance, and emotional support.




- Perform light housekeeping tasks related to personal care, including making beds and maintaining bathroom tidiness.
- Observe and communicate any changes in physical or cognitive health, mobility, or overall well-being to family members.

Qualifications and Experience
- PSW certificate or equivalent relevant experience.
- Previous experience supporting seniors, preferably in a private home-care setting.
- Experience caring for individuals with Parkinson’s disease or other neurological conditions is an asset.
- Knowledge of safe patient handling, mobility assistance, and transfer techniques.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, compassionate, attentive, and dependable.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with family members.

Additional Requirements
- Criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
