Senior Azure AI Foundry Architect (10+ years) to design and deliver AI agents and RAG solutions using Microsoft Foundry and Azure AI Search
Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Azure AI Foundry Architect (10+ years) to design and deliver AI agents and RAG solutions using Microsoft Foundry and Azure AI Search
Lead high-impact architecture for AI agents, RAG applications, and AI-enabled workflows built on Microsoft Foundry within a public sector environment. Scope spans target-state architecture, Foundry Agent Service implementations, RAG pipelines with Azure AI Search, and embedded enterprise security, Responsible AI, evaluation, and observability. The role also drives cost management and automated provisioning with Terraform or Bicep and CI/CD, integrating solutions across enterprise applications and channels. Deliver production-grade systems balancing quality, latency, cost, and privacy.
1 year contract to start, hybrid in Richmond - 3 days/week onsite.
Must Haves
- 8+ years in cloud architecture, software or platform engineering, including 2+ years designing AI/LLM solutions
- Hands-on architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on Azure AI Foundry with at least one production deployment
- Foundry Agent Service and agent frameworks for agentic systems
- Strong knowledge of Azure AI Search, embeddings, and vector-based retrieval
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline
Nice to Have
- Microsoft certifications such as AI-102 or AZ-305 (or equivalent)
- Experience with MCP servers, tool integration, and agent-to-agent (A2A) patterns
- Deploying containerized/hosted agents on Azure Container Apps or AKS
- Model fine-tuning, distillation,
and provisioned throughput (PTU) capacity planning
- AI evaluation, red-teaming, and content safety tooling (Azure AI Evaluation SDK, PyRIT, Azure AI Content Safety)
Responsibilities
- Design and document the Microsoft Foundry target-state architecture with environment segregation and integration with Azure landing zones
- Design and implement agents using Foundry Agent Service, including tool integration and multi-agent orchestration patterns
- Architect and optimize RAG pipelines and knowledge sources using Azure AI Search and related vector storage to meet latency, cost, and quality targets
- Implement enterprise security controls for Foundry, including private networking, identity, RBAC, Key Vault, data residency, and audit logging
- Design and execute AI evaluation processes using Foundry evaluations and the Azure AI Evaluation SDK, including red-teaming and continuous evaluation
- Implement AI observability and tracing using OpenTelemetry, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights for token consumption, latency, failures, and trace correlation
- Automate provisioning and deployment of Foundry resources, model deployments, connections, and agents using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines
