Lead AI product delivery for DfT in Hastings, using cloud engineering and responsible AI practices within a hybrid two-days-remote schedule.

As a Principal AI Engineer, you will own technical delivery across the product lifecycle. You will design, build, deploy, and maintain AI solutions supporting high-stakes decisions, complex operations, and transport policy objectives. The AI and Data Science Team develops technical products within DfT’s AI Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead end-to-end delivery of impactful AI and data science products
- Design scalable software using testing, version control, and code review
- Deploy products across cloud development, test, and production environments
- Apply AI technologies including LLMs, RAG, agents, and computer vision




- Collaborate across DfT, government, and external partner teams

Requirements:

- Experience delivering AI or data science products in production
- Programming and software engineering experience with maintainable solutions
- Experience using CI/CD and Terraform or similar IaC tools
- Experience evaluating AI and data science solutions statistically
- Understanding of ethics, GDPR, and human oversight
