About The Opportunity

PRI is a multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consulting firm with offices across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia. We are seeking a Structural Engineering EIT to support our structural team on building, institutional, industrial, and resource-sector projects, working alongside experienced engineers on real, active work. This is a learning-focused role for an engineering student who wants practical, hands‑on exposure to how a structural project actually comes together: supporting design calculations, producing drawings, and, where possible, getting out to a construction site to see the work in the field. You will be paired with and mentored by intermediate and senior structural engineers throughout the term. The structural practice serves municipalities, institutional and industrial clients, developers, and resource-sector clients, delivering recent building design, renovation and retrofit, structural assessments, and construction support across projects located in every region PRI operates in.

Who This Role Is For

You are a civil or structural engineering student who is curious about how structures are actually designed and built, not just how they're modeled in a textbook: someone who asks questions, double‑checks their own work, and is comfortable saying when they don’t know something yet. You’re looking for a term where you’ll do real, supervised work on live projects,

build your technical skills, and get a genuine feel for structural engineering as a career.

What You’ll Do

Structural design support

- Support senior and intermediate engineers with structural calculations and design checks for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry elements, under direct supervision.
- Assist with structural modeling and analysis using software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or STAAD.Pro, learning to build and interpret models as you go.
- Help research and apply National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and CSA standard requirements relevant to assigned projects.
- Assist with structural assessments of existing buildings, including data collection and basic calculations under supervision.

Drafting and documentation support

- Prepare and revise structural drawings and details in AutoCAD and/or Revit under the direction of a supervising engineer.
- Help assemble structural specifications, design briefs, and calculation packages for internal review.
- Support quantity take‑offs and basic cost estimate input for structural scopes of work.

Site exposure and field support

- Join site visits and field reviews with supervising engineers, where project and site conditions allow, to see construction progress against the structural design.
- Help document field observations, photos,

and site notes for the project record.
- Shadow construction administration tasks such as reviewing shop drawings and responding to requests for information, with guidance from senior staff.

Learning and team integration

- Participate in internal design reviews and team meetings to see how structural decisions get made and communicated.
- Receive regular feedback and mentorship from your supervising engineer throughout the term, with a mid‑term and end‑of‑term check‑in.
- Contribute fresh ideas and questions — interns are expected to learn by doing, not just by observing.

Required

Who we’re looking for

- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering, with at least second‑year standing completed.
- Coursework in statics, mechanics of materials, and an introduction to structural analysis or structural design.
- Basic familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit, or strong willingness and aptitude to learn quickly on the job.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort double‑checking numerical work.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally to project or construction sites, where applicable to the assigned office.

Preferred

- Prior co‑op, internship, or relevant part‑time work experience in an engineering or construction environment.
- Exposure to structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or STAAD.Pro through coursework or personal projects.
- Involvement in engineering design competitions or clubs, such as concrete canoe, steel bridge, or similar programs.
- Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration after
