Intermediate Photographer and Content Creator (12 month contract)
- Intermediate Photographer and Content Creator (12 month contract)
We are a collective of disrupters and doers, of creatives and scientists, with a mission to reimagine the world of beauty.
Since inception, our vertically integrated structure, including our own laboratories, manufacturing, retail stores, and brand infrastructure, have enabled us to rapidly identify opportunities and deliver quality. Home to The Ordinary, NIOD, AVESTAN, and other emerging brands, our goal is to create with purpose. We were founded on the principle of doing everything that others don’t. Because normal gets you nowhere.
We are DECIEM, The Abnormal Beauty Company.
We are growing rapidly and we’re looking for someone who shares this vision and wants to grow with us
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The Intermediate Photographer and Content Creator role will own and execute commercial studio still photography across DECIEM’s global brand portfolio, with a primary focus on driving visual execution for Recent Product Launches (NPLs) alongside ongoing campaign and core portfolio needs. Working with high technical precision and creative autonomy, this role is responsible for translating brand strategy and visual guidelines into unretouched, high-impact studio visuals—spanning e-commerce packshots, product launches, macro formula texture swatches, and model employee product applications. The incumbent will partner directly with Art Directors, Graphic Designers, Copywriters, and scientific teams to produce still assets that communicate clinical integrity, functional minimalism, and unvarnished product truth. Beyond camera execution,
this role manages tethered capture workflows, color accuracy, asset management, prop staging, and sporadic travel requirements while upholding strict visual standards.
This is a hybrid role based 3 days onsite out of our Torontooffice. It is a 12 month contract position.
To be considered for this role, you must submit your online portfoliofor review.
WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
New Product Launches & Technical Studio Execution
- Serve as the visual lead for New Product Launches (NPLs), creating hero still photography and support assets that translate complex formulation science into clear, high-impact product stories.
- Own the development and execution of commercial studio still photography for e-commerce packshots, global campaign moments, and digital storefronts in strict alignment with brand visual standards.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate studio strobe and continuous lighting environments to achieve clean, crisp illumination, balanced shadows, and exact packaging color fidelity.
- Lead tethered shooting workflows (Capture One Pro), file ingestion, color management, RAW processing, digital clipping, and final asset delivery across web, retail, and print channels.
- Capture high-detail macro swatch photography that showcases raw product formulas, viscosity,
surface tension, droplets, and tactile textures ("gross-satisfying" spreads, microemulsions, and viscous flows).
- Utilize specialized macro lenses and lighting configurations to communicate formula performance and ingredient technology with clinical precision, avoiding artificial enhancement or digital distortion.
Model Employee Product Applications
- Conduct studio photography featuring internal team members as models to demonstrate real product applications, using close, deliberate cropping to highlight genuine product texture and application techniques.
- Enforce the brand's strict unretouched skin policy—capturing natural skin textures, realistic highlights, and biological authenticity while prohibiting smoothing filters, deceptive skin retouching, or hired agency models.
Prop Staging, Set Direction & Resource Stewardship
- Source, build, and style minimalist prop environments that elevate product function and structural form without distracting from the hero formula.
Creative Collaboration, Workflow & Travel Readiness
- Partner closely with Art Directors, Graphic Designers, and Copywriters to ensure photography integrates seamlessly into typographic layouts, grid systems, and campaign narratives.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- 3–5+ years of professional commercial studio photography experience, ideally within cosmetics, skincare, personal care, CPG, or high-design luxury environments.
- Demonstrated experience working on commercial shoots or campaign projects for APAC or Asian beauty/skincare brands, with a strong understanding
