Job Overview
Ritch-Meyer Machine & Tool Inc. is looking for a skilled and motivated CNC Machinist to join our growing manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining centres to manufacture high-precision components for plastic injection molds, high-pressure diecast molds, trim dies, and custom machining projects.
Working from engineering drawings and 3D CAD models, you will develop CNC machining programs, determine efficient machining strategies, select appropriate tooling, and oversee the machining process from programming through completion.
We use Cimatron CAD/CAM software for CNC programming. Previous experience with Cimatron is an asset, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
We invest heavily in our equipment and our people. Whether you are an experienced 5-axis programmer or a strong 3-axis machinist looking to expand your programming and machining capabilities, we offer opportunities to develop your skills and grow with the company.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and job specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Develop CNC programs using CAD/CAM software for 3-axis and/or 5-axis machining operations.
- Determine appropriate machining strategies, toolpaths, cutting tools, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining sequences.
- Program complex tooling components to achieve required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
- Set up and operate 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining centres.
- Perform machine setups, including workpiece alignment, tool loading, work offsets, and machine calibration checks.
- Verify and prove out new CNC programs before production.
- Edit and optimize existing CNC programs to improve machining efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to programs, feeds, speeds, and tool offsets as required.
- Inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, tool wear, and machine irregularities.
- Work with other shop personnel to coordinate machining requirements and improve production processes.
- Maintain accurate setup sheets, CNC programs, and production documentation.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist in training and supporting other employees as experience and knowledge develop.
- Follow company quality procedures, ISO 9001 requirements, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines.
- Experience with 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models.
- Understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.
- Experience developing and editing CNC programs using CAD/CAM software.
- Ability to verify programs and troubleshoot machining operations.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
- Strong mathematical, mechanical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Experience with Cimatron CAD/CAM software.
- Experience programming 5-axis CNC machining centres.
- Experience with Fanuc and/or Heidenhain CNC controls.
- Experience in mold manufacturing, tool and die, or custom machining.
- Experience machining complex 3D surfaces and large tooling components.
We are willing to train the right candidate. Previous Cimatron experience is not required. A strong understanding of CNC machining, programming fundamentals, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn are what matter most.
