The Opportunity Canada Gas Portfolio Design & Optimization is seeking a
Facility Reliability & Integrity (FRI) Geographical Planner
to plan and optimize the maintenance portfolio, with a primary focus on compression, measurement, and associated facility assets. This role translates identified asset risks, technical and regulatory requirements, operational reliability needs, commercial priorities, and financial constraints into an integrated, risk informed, and executable multi year portfolio.
Working across FR&I; technical functions, Engineering, Operations, Commercial Operations, Long Term Portfolio Planning, Portfolio Enablement, Finance, Work Management, and project execution teams, the successful candidate will develop decision ready portfolio recommendations for their respective geography that balance safety, compliance, reliability, system value, affordability, outage requirements, and execution capacity.
The role requires strong independent judgment and the ability to challenge assumptions, evaluate alternatives where applicable, communicate trade offs, and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
Key Responsibilities
Translate FR&I; asset strategies, Engineering Justifications, regulatory obligations, reliability requirements, operational priorities, and commercial considerations into clearly defined portfolio candidates for their respective geography.
Confirm that proposed work contains sufficient planning information, including scope intent, risk basis, required timing, cost basis, outage requirements, dependencies, constraints, readiness, and consequence of deferral.
Challenge incomplete, inconsistent, or unsupported portfolio inputs and coordinate the resolution of gaps with the appropriate technical or business owner.
Maintain clear traceability from the identified facility need and risk through portfolio recommendation, approval, execution handoff, and planned risk reduction outcome.
Recommend where work should be bundled, accelerated, deferred, re-sequenced, standardized, or re-scoped to improve portfolio value and executability.
Assess the impact of proposed portfolio changes on safety, compliance, reliability, commercial service, outage requirements, cost, resource capacity, and displaced work.
Present balanced recommendations when program demand exceeds available funding or delivery capacity, including the residual risk and consequences associated with each option.
Translate long term strategy, financial guardrails, commercial priorities, and program targets into practical near and medium term FR&I; portfolio options.
Work with Long Term Portfolio Planning to connect statistical pools, lifecycle requirements, known asset strategies, emerging risks,
and defined projects into a coherent multi year outlook.
Evaluate program affordability, cost trends, estimate maturity, planned carryover, statistical pools, headwinds, tailwinds, and potential funding pressures.
Develop clear recommendations for reallocations, accelerations, deferrals, and scope changes while maintaining visibility to risk and operational consequences.
Partner with Portfolio Enablement and Finance to ensure approved portfolio decisions are accurately reflected in financial plans, forecasts, and portfolio records.
Identify material variances or threshold breaches requiring portfolio re-optimization or leadership direction.
Coordinate early engagement with project execution, Engineering, Operations, Work Management, Commercial Operations, and other delivery partners to test portfolio feasibility.
Evaluate execution changes, emerging work, or forecast pressures to determine whether re-prioritization or portfolio rebalancing is required.
Represent PDO in senior stakeholder discussions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Asset Management, or a closely related technical discipline with a progressive experience of
10+ years . An equivalent combination of relevant education and extensive industry experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience developing, prioritizing, or optimizing complex multi year maintenance portfolios.
Robust understanding of risk informed decision making, asset lifecycle planning, regulatory or compliance driven work, reliability requirements, and capital-allocation trade offs.
