Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in connecting product design with real-world production, ensuring that complex electromechanical products are designed for manufacturability and successfully transitioned into scalable, effective manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary manufacturing interface with the design engineering team, representing the production perspective in product and design decisions.
- Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) reviews, identifying manufacturing risks and recommending practical design improvements.
- Provide manufacturing-focused guidance to designers and engineers to ensure products can be efficiently built, assembled, tested, and scaled.
- Support the transition of new products from completed design through NPI and into full-scale manufacturing.
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, production plans, workflows, tooling requirements, and work methods for new and existing products.
- Perform capacity analysis and run-rate assessments to identify production requirements, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support production line and manufacturing cell layout, optimization, and balancing to improve workflow, throughput, and resource utilization.
- Provide hands-on production support by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and working directly with operations to implement effective solutions.
- Conduct regular shop‐floor reviews to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, quality concerns, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Lead practical continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, reliability, and repeatability.
- Support planning for capital equipment investments, tooling, and layout changes as production requirements evolve.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small manufacturing engineering team while remaining actively involved in day‐to‐day engineering activities.
- Balance approximately 3040% of time on team oversight and technical leadership with 6070% on hands‐on manufacturing engineering and execution.
- Coordinate manufacturing engineering activities, timelines, and deliverables for NPI and process improvement projects.
- Maintain a high level of accountability and ownership for manufacturing outcomes, production targets, and quality standards.
Essential Skills
- 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, with a strong background in developing and optimizing production processes.
- 2+ years of experience providing technical leadership, mentorship, or oversight to engineers or technicians.
- Demonstrated experience leading NPI and industrialization activities, including transitioning designs into stable and scalable manufacturing.
- Proven experience leading continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands‐on manufacturing engineering experience, including process development, production optimization, tooling, and layout design.
- Strong understanding of DFM, DFA, and manufacturing process development.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and structured continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience developing manufacturing workflows, tooling requirements, work instructions, and production methods.
- Experience designing or optimizing production lines and manufacturing cells.
- Strong project management skills, including planning and executing manufacturing engineering projects.
- High level of accountability and ownership for manufacturing performance and outcomes.
- Experience working with complex electromechanical products or equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a high‐mix or technically complex manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Previous experience in a lead, supervisory, or managerial capacity within manufacturing engineering is preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt, or equivalent continuous improvement training is an asset.
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale‐up, capacity expansion, or facility/layout changes is beneficial.
- Interest in progressing from a technical lead position into a formal management role as the team grows.
Work Environment
This is a fully on‐site position with significant time spent directly on the production floor in a hands‐on manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with production, operations
