The unit clerk on the FMC PCU 52 Postpartum unit must, under limited supervision, perform clerical, receptionist and booking duties for the postpartum unit. The unit clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patient and families, and maintains confidentiality of patient information. The position is a major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of the unit.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications: Must be able to work 12hr shifts.

Preferred Qualifications: Recent unit clerk experience on a Postpartum unit. Previous unit clerk experience in a hospital setting. Experience on Critical Care area/high stress area. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and multiple distractions. Organized and able to prioritize in stressful situations essential. Excellent communication skills are essential.
