Caledon Mountain Veterinary Hospital (CMVH) is a privately owned, AAHA-accredited small animal and surgical referral practice in Caledon Village, Ontario. Surgery is at the heart of what we do. Our caseload is predominantly orthopedics, and we are committed to progressive, evidence-based medicine delivered with calm, respectful patient care.

Our surgery department is growing and we are looking for a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our team who is friendly, loves multi-tasking, is easy-going and loves interacting with clients. Being a team player and being able to work independently are equally important. Being comfortable with animal handling and restraint as well as being familiar with a fear-free approach is necessary for this role.

Job Requirements

- We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, compassionate, customer service oriented and able to contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Previous veterinary clinic experience or completion of an animal care/veterinary assistant program is required.
- Excellent communication skills with a solid command of the English language both written and oral.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, surgical environment.
- Have the physical strength and ability to lift up to 45lbs unassisted.
- Have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed.
- Have the physical strength and ability to sit, crouch, bend, and kneel when needed.

Expected duties for this role may include but are not limited to

- Greeting and engaging with clients and pets visiting the clinic.




- Assisting in safely handling animals as instructed by the Veterinarians or Technicians so they may examine, provide treatment, take samples or administer treatments to a patient.
- Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, recovery, walking, feeding and comfort care.
- Maintaining patient cleanliness, bedding, cages, kennels and recovery areas.
- Supporting surgical and treatment workflows throughout the hospital.
- Preparing and maintaining treatment, recovery, and surgical support areas.
- Assisting with cleaning, turnover, and organization of surgical and treatment spaces.
- Maintaining stock levels and supplies within treatment and surgical areas.
- Preparing medications and prescriptions for veterinary review and dispensing.
- Assisting with sample handling and diagnostic procedures.
- Completing various cleaning, stocking, and inventory duties throughout the hospital.
- Assisting with receiving orders by unpacking medical and food supplies.
- Assisting at the front desk with regular clerical duties such as POS transactions, booking appointments, and directing client questions to the appropriate team member.

Schedule Your typical schedule would be 36-40 hours per week and would include a rotation of Saturdays with the rest of our Veterinary Assistant team.

Graduation from an Animal Care / Veterinary Assistant Program or hands on experience in a Veterinary setting is required for this position. Applicants must be able to lift 45lbs unassisted.
