Support microbiology testing as a part time Laboratory Assistant with Shared Hospital Laboratory, planting specimens and answering results requests. Work includes diverse shifts.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will perform specimen receiving duties in SHL’s Microbiology department. The position includes planting specimens to appropriate media, answering results requests, and assisting the Senior Technologist and Operations Manager. SHL is owned by four Toronto hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform duties in the microbiology specimen receiving area
- Plant all specimens to appropriate media
- Answer results requests from relevant contacts
- Assist the Senior Technologist with general duties
- Support the Operations Manager in microbiology duties

Requirements:

- Michener Institute Certificate or equivalent Laboratory Assistant qualification
- Career Canada Certificate or OSMT qualification
- Preferred six months’ bacteriology experience
- Knowledge of media and incubation times preferred
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
