We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.

Role As our new Mining / Process Engineer in Training, you will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering projects across the mining, mineral processing, backfill, geotechnical, and infrastructure sectors. This position offers an opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the engineering disciplines and critical roles involved in delivering successful mining projects, from early‑stage studies and laboratory testing through to detailed engineering and project execution. Rather than being limited to a single technical discipline, you will have opportunities to rotate between project teams, working alongside experienced engineers and specialists to build cross‑functional knowledge and practical engineering experience. You will gain exposure to a variety of project types, work with clients locally and internationally, participate in site visits and field investigations, and get hands‑on experience in our laboratory.

Responsibilities

- Assist with engineering calculations, mass balances, equipment selection, preliminary layouts, technical drawings, and preparation of engineering reports and deliverables.
- Participate in laboratory testing programs involving tailings, backfill materials, and aggregates, gaining hands‑on experience with material characterization, testing procedures, and interpretation of results.

- Work alongside different project teams and technical disciplines, developing an understanding of how mining, process, mechanical, civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering scopes come together to deliver successful projects.
- Participate in site visits, field investigations, and client engagements, gaining practical exposure to operating mines, project infrastructure, and engineering challenges both locally and internationally.

Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Interest in working towards a P.Eng. with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or the applicable provincial engineering regulator.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
- Familiarity with mining, engineering design, drafting, or process simulation software would be considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills, with an ability to communicate technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated initiative and a self‑starter mentality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from experienced professionals.
- Robust commitment to health and safety.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
