ABOUT SWAN CITY CHURCH:
SCC is a church of about 200 people in our second year since planting. We currently gather on Sundays in a hotel conference room, and we are actively looking for a permanent home. Theologically, we sit between the Evangelical Mennonite Conference and Calvary Chapel. Our main distinction is that we are congregationally led: the congregation holds final authority, the Board of Elders leads on its behalf, and the pastor serves under the oversight of the Board.
THE ROLE:
The Lead Pastor is the spiritual overseer and shepherd of the congregation. Responsibilities include:
Shepherding the flock
Preaching and teaching
Mentoring
Counselling
Prayer
Listening
Setting vision, together with the Board of Elders
Overseeing staff
Officiating weddings, funerals, and baptisms, and providing visitation
Serving as an ex-officio member of the Board of Elders
The Lead Pastor reports to the Board of Elders. The position is full-time, typically 40-50 hours per week with flexible schedule as necessary.
WHAT WE ASK OF A CANDIDATE
A resume of your job and ministry experience
A doctrinal statement, written in your own words,
describing what you believe on each doctrine in the Swan City Church Statement of Faith (attached)
At least three references
A written personal testimony of faith
We also look for the biblical qualifications for ministers found in Acts 6:3-4, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
WHAT THE PROCESS LOOKS LIKE
Once we’ve reviewed your materials, the Search Committee may invite you and your family for a candidating visit that includes both ministry and fellowship.
During that visit, you would meet with the Board of Elders to discuss terms of ministry, outside service, study opportunities, moving expenses, and any other questions you have.
The Board would then bring a recommendation to the congregation, which makes the final decision by vote at a congregational meeting.
If called, there is a review at three months, followed by an annual review each year after that.
Throughout this process, we want to call someone for a ministry, not someone who brings a ministry with them, while recognizing and valuing your personal gifting.
