The Psychiatric Emergency Registered Nurse works with emergency and mental health teams to coordinate care for psychiatric patients. The RN/RPN provides assessments, counselling, medication monitoring, documentation, education, and clinical guidance. The role includes supporting violence de-escalation, suicide prevention, seclusion and restraint practices, quality improvement, and emergency protocols while assisting patients and families with community resources.
Key Responsibilities: Provide direct psychiatric nursing care and counselling
Collaborate with emergency, hospital, and community providers
Educate patients, families, staff, and students




Support safe management during restraint-related practices
Participate in quality improvement and risk management
Requirements: BCCNM registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse
One year of recent acute psychiatric experience
Specialty adolescent psychiatry training or equivalent experience
Knowledge of crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment
Ability to make appropriate emergency clinical decisions
Use psychiatric nursing judgment, de-escalation knowledge, and communication skills to support emergency mental health care at Fraser Health.
