This apprentice-level role supports qualified personnel while building knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and locomotive equipment. You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain assigned components. The work follows company standards, railway rules, applicable regulations, and established secure work procedures.
Key Responsibilities: Assist qualified personnel with locomotive inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance
Complete scheduled, preventive, corrective, and on-request maintenance tasks
Develop practical knowledge of diesel and locomotive systems
Use tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment safely




Record defects, safety concerns, repairs, and equipment status
Requirements: Mechanical, diesel, automotive, or heavy-equipment experience, training, or aptitude
High school diploma or recognized equivalent
Apprenticeship enrollment, eligibility, or willingness to complete training
Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly
Ability to work varying shifts and railway environments
Build diesel-electric locomotive maintenance proficiency through CN training, qualified guidance, safe tool use, and practical railway experience.
