The Opportunity

As a Project Manager at Westland, you will be an important part of the team responsible for successfully taking construction projects from planning through completion.

The scope of your responsibilities will be tailored somewhat to your experience. Senior candidates will be expected to independently lead projects, while developing PMs will work with experienced members of our team as they assume increasing levels of responsibility.

Responsibilities may include:

- Managing and coordinating construction projects from pre-construction through closeout
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, contracts and other project documentation
- Developing and maintaining project budgets and schedules
- Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and other project stakeholders
- Working closely with Site Superintendents to plan and execute the work
- Procuring subcontractors, vendors and materials
- Preparing, pricing and tracking change orders and purchase orders
- Managing RFIs, submittals and other project documentation
- Monitoring project costs, forecasts and profitability
- Identifying project risks and resolving issues before they impact the project
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with owners, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
- Communicating expectations clearly with both internal and external project teams
- Supporting estimating and pre-construction activities where required
- Ensuring projects meet Westland's expectations for safety, quality, schedule, budget and client satisfaction

What We're Looking For

We are more interested in finding the right person than checking every box.

Your experience may range from someone ready to move into project management to an established PM with a proven record of successfully delivering construction projects.

Ideally, you will have some combination of:

- Experience in the commercial, institutional, industrial or related construction industry
- Previous experience as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Estimator, Site Supervisor or similar construction role
- A construction-related degree, diploma, technical education, skilled trade background or equivalent practical experience
- An ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and multiple trade disciplines

- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Experience with project budgets, schedules, purchase orders and change management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to establish priorities and manage multiple responsibilities
- Sound judgment and strong problem-solving ability
- An understanding of construction contracts and project risk
- Strong computer skills and comfort learning construction management software

For more experienced candidates, we will place greater emphasis on demonstrated responsibility for project financial performance, contracts, scheduling, risk management, client relationships and the successful delivery of projects.

For developing candidates, we place greater emphasis on construction knowledge, initiative, organizational ability, attitude and your demonstrated potential to grow.

The Person Who Will Succeed at Westland

Experience matters, but how you approach your work matters just as much.

You are someone who:

- Takes ownership and follows through
- Anticipates problems rather than simply reacting to them
- Communicates openly and professionally
- Builds strong working relationships
- Is comfortable making decisions
- Can negotiate firmly and fairly
- Pays attention to details without losing sight of the overall project
- Understands that successful construction requires teamwork
- Is adaptable and resourceful
- Has a sense of urgency when the situation requires it
- Takes pride in delivering a successful project
- Is interested in continually becoming better at what they do

Compensation -

$65,000 to $110,000+ annually

Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, capabilities and level of responsibility.

This position also includes a comprehensive benefits program and RRSP matching.
