Our Client, Waycon Manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Horizontal Boring Machinist and Programmer with extensive hands-on experience operating and programming large-format CNC horizontal boring mills. This permanent, full-time position offers 40 hours per week, with a flexible work schedule based on production requirements.

Working with large industrial components and complex fabricated weldments, you will play a key role in producing precision-machined parts to exact engineering specifications. This position involves operating five-axis CNC horizontal boring mills, programming through Mastercam CAD/CAM software, and working with Heidenhain and Fanuc control systems.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, planning complex machining setups, troubleshooting technical challenges, and making sound decisions to achieve precise results. Key Responsibilities

- Set up, operate, and program CNC horizontal boring mills and CNC milling machines using Heidenhain and Fanuc control systems;

- Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam CAD/CAM software, including making program adjustments at the machine;

- Perform horizontal boring, milling, drilling, tapping, facing, and other precision machining operations on large industrial components and heavy fabricated weldments;

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;), and technical specifications to determine machining sequences, tooling, and workholding requirements;

- Plan and execute complex setups for large, heavy, and non-uniform workpieces, including components with weld distortion and irregular surfaces;

- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, feeds, speeds, and machining parameters to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes;

- Set work offsets, tool offsets, and datums,



and operate angle head attachments to machine features across multiple surfaces and angles;

- Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances, conduct first-piece inspections, and complete in-process quality checks;

- Monitor machining processes, identify and troubleshoot issues such as tool wear, vibration, chatter, dimensional inaccuracies, and programming errors;

- Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventative maintenance;

- Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, fabricators, and other machinists to plan machining procedures and meet production requirements;

- Maintain accurate production records, inspection results, and quality documentation; and

- Provide technical guidance and support to apprentices and junior machinists, sharing knowledge of programming, horizontal boring operations, and safe machining practices.

Requirements

- Completion of a machinist apprenticeship, Red Seal certification, diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred;

- Demonstrated experience operating and programming large-format CNC horizontal boring mills is required;

- Strong hands-on experience machining large industrial components and heavy fabricated weldments, including non-uniform assemblies requiring specialized setups;

- Proficiency in Mastercam CAD/CAM programming, including the ability to independently develop, modify, and optimize toolpaths;

- Experience working with multiple CNC control systems, specifically Heidenhain and Fanuc, is required. Mazak Mazatrol experience is an asset;





- Advanced knowledge of CNC horizontal boring operations, including five-axis machining, spindle alignment, angle head setup, and large workpiece positioning;

- Strong ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T;, blueprints, and technical specifications;

- Experience with work offsets, tool offsets, datum setting, and machining to tight dimensional tolerances;

- Strong understanding of cutting tools, inserts, machining parameters, and production methods;

- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and vernier calipers;

- Ability to troubleshoot machining challenges and make independent technical decisions to maintain quality and production efficiency;

- Experience safely handling large and heavy components using overhead cranes, rigging, and other lifting equipment; and

- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and workplace safety;

- Experience in a lead hand, supervisory, or training capacity is considered an asset.

This position offers a wage of $40 per hour, permanent full-time employment at 40 hours per week, and opportunities for overtime based on production demands. The successful candidate must be flexible to work shifts as required to meet production needs, including day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Overtime will be compensated in accordance with applicable employment standards.
