The Literacy and Numeracy Tutor supports children in developing reading, writing, and numeracy skills through clear explanations, structured practice, and encouraging guidance. You will adapt activities to learners’ needs, check understanding, and help create a positive environment where children can build confidence and make steady progress. The role combines individual support with learning activities suited to the setting.

Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver tutoring and teaching activities that strengthen literacy and numeracy.
- Explain concepts in accessible steps, encourage questions, and adapt instruction to children’s progress.
- Use practice tasks and observation to identify learning needs and reinforce key skills.
- Maintain a supportive learning environment and share relevant progress updates with colleagues.

Experience

Required: Explicit communication, patience, and the ability to explain reading, writing, and numeracy concepts in ways children can understand. You should be able to guide practice, notice when learners need additional support, and maintain a focused, encouraging learning environment.

Preferred: Tutoring or teaching experience, experience working with children, and classroom experience are advantageous. These strengths can help you adapt activities, engage learners, and contribute effectively to a collaborative learning setting.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2.0 – 6.0 per week
