About the Position

Kanellos Consulting is looking for an experienced contents or restoration skilled to join our growing Contents Claims division.

This position is primarily field-based and is intended for someone who already understands restoration environments, contents inventory work and onsite documentation.

We are looking for someone who can work alongside our Contents Claims Specialist initially, learn our procedures and standards, and eventually be trusted to attend sites and complete contents inventory work independently.

Encircle experience is particularly valuable.

What You Will Be Doing

The main focus of this position will be onsite contents work, including:

- Attending residential and commercial fire, water, smoke and other property losses

- Working directly with restoration contractors, insureds and other parties onsite

- Completing detailed room-by-room contents inventories

- Photographing and documenting contents accurately

- Listing contents directly into Encircle while onsite

- Writing explicit and accurate item descriptions

- Identifying brands, models, materials, sizes and other important item details

- Assessing contents for potential salvageability, restoration or replacement

- Working with restoration contractors to determine what contents require further assessment, cleaning or disposal

- Keeping the contents portion of the loss organized and moving forward

- Making sure items and rooms are properly documented before leaving the site

- Providing clear information back to the Contents Claims Specialist following site attendance

As your knowledge of our procedures develops, the goal is for you to be able to handle onsite contents inventory work independently.

You may also assist with:

- Reviewing and cleaning up Encircle inventories after site attendance





- Product identification and research

- Replacement-cost research and pricing

- Like-kind-and-quality replacement research

- Quality control and final inventory review

- Claim processing and report preparation

Experience We Are Looking For

Relevant experience may include:

- Encircle

- Contents inventory and listing

- Contents restoration

- Property restoration

- Fire and water loss work

- Insurance contents claims

- Restoration field work

- Salvageability assessments

- Working directly with restoration contractors

- Claims processing or pricing

Someone who already knows how to use Encircle and properly list contents could potentially come onsite and begin helping immediately, with training mainly focused on how we handle our claims and the standards we expect.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

- Comfortable and experienced working onsite in fire, smoke and water losses

- Capable of completing detailed contents inventories

- Comfortable using Encircle or similar software

- Able to work confidently with restoration contractors and insureds

- Detail-oriented and organized

- Able to identify and accurately describe a wide range of household and commercial contents

- Able to make sound decisions and know when something needs to be discussed further

- Professional in appearance, communication and conduct when representing the company onsite

- Able to work independently once familiar with our procedures





- Reliable and able to take responsibility for the onsite work assigned to them

- Comfortable asking questions when unsure rather than guessing

- Interested in taking on greater responsibility as the Contents division grows

Work Environment

This is primarily a field position with some computer-based claim processing.

Worksites may include:

- Fire- and smoke-damaged properties

- Water-damaged properties

- Active restoration sites

- Residential and commercial losses

- Properties requiring personal protective equipment

Site days may vary in length depending on the size and complexity of the loss.

Some inventory review, research and claim-processing work may be completed remotely depending on workload and operational requirements.

Compensation and Hours

- $25.00 per hour and up

- Starting rate will depend on relevant Encircle, contents, restoration and insurance experience

- Part-time to full time depending on claim volume

- Hours may vary from week to week

- Overtime opportunities may be available during busier periods

- Business mileage reimbursed when applicable

- Benefits eligibility subject to applicable requirements

Career Development

For the right person, the goal is to develop into a trusted Contents Claims Specialist who can independently handle the onsite portion of contents claims and take on increasing responsibility as the division grows.

There is also an opportunity to develop further into replacement-cost research, pricing, reporting and other parts of the contents claims process.
