Qualifications – Saskatchewan Healthcare Facility

- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Perioperative Nursing Certificate required
- Saskatchewan nursing registration is not required to apply. Candidates may begin once their Saskatchewan license has been received.
- Saskatchewan licensing fees will be reimbursed once the contract begins.

Responsibilities:

Registered Nurses are required to practice in accordance with their professional scope of practice and applicable Saskatchewan nursing standards. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative process
- Prepare the operating room, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures
- Assist surgical teams during procedures while maintaining sterile technique
- Monitor patient safety and respond to changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetic providers, and other healthcare professionals
- Complete accurate patient documentation and follow infection prevention and control protocols
- Support a variety of surgical specialties and procedures based on experience and facility needs

Note: Duties may vary slightly based on facility and shift, with specific guidance provided during site orientation.

Experience:

- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room nursing experience




- Experience with the following surgical specialties and case mix is an asset:

Ophthalmology

- Cataract procedures, with approximately 35–40 cases per day
- Approximately six surgeons

General Surgery

- Bladder procedures
- Hernia repairs
- No appendectomies performed

Plastic Surgery

- Provincially funded and private procedures
- Hand surgery
- Augmentations
- Facelifts

Orthopedics

- Knee arthroscopies
- Shoulder arthroscopies
- ACL repairs

Skills:

- Solid perioperative assessment and patient monitoring skills
- Knowledge of sterile technique and operating room protocols
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and clinical judgment
- Ability to adapt to varying surgical specialties and case volumes
