Founded in 1983 on a foundation of service and product excellence, Gem Connection has grown to become one of the largest wholesale suppliers of loose gemstones, diamonds, and jewellery on Canada's West Coast.

We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented part-time photographer to join our team and help capture high-quality images of our gemstone and jewellery inventory.

The ideal candidate has experience in product or studio photography, a strong understanding of lighting and camera equipment, and proficiency in professional photo and video editing software.

This role offers the opportunity to help develop our in-house photography setup, from selecting the appropriate equipment to photographing and editing our inventory. All photography equipment will be purchased and provided by Gem Connection.

This is an in-person position based at our Downtown Vancouver location.

Responsibilities

Photograph loose coloured gemstones, diamonds, and jewellery for inventory, marketing, and digital use.

Capture accurate gemstone colours, details, and characteristics through effective lighting and camera techniques.

Research and recommend suitable photography equipment, including cameras, macro lenses, lighting, and accessories.

Assist with purchasing and setting up photography equipment within an approved company budget.

Edit and retouch photographs using professional editing software, including Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

Develop a consistent photography style and workflow for our gemstone inventory.

Organize and manage digital image files.

Collaborate with the Gem Connection team to ensure photographs meet business needs.

Qualifications

Current student, recent graduate, or individual with relevant experience in photography, visual arts, or a related field.

Previous experience in product, commercial, macro, or studio photography.

Strong understanding of camera settings, lighting techniques, and photographic equipment.

Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom, including colour correction, retouching, and image optimization.





Experience with Capture One, Helicon Focus, or other focus-stacking software is considered an asset.

Ability to produce sharp, detailed, and colour-accurate photographs.

Experience selecting and setting up photography equipment.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.

Experience photographing jewellery, gemstones, or other small reflective objects is an asset but not required.

Links to portfolios are highly desired and contribute heavily towards hiring chance.

Reporting Structure

The successful candidate will report directly to the Gem Connection management team. They will have the autonomy to manage the photography process, from equipment selection to final image production, while receiving ongoing guidance, collaboration, and support from management.
