Overview
Bridges to Hope is a food aid centre located at 37 Cookstown Road, St. John’s.
Our mission is to provide dignified and accessible assistance to our neighbours experiencing food insecurity. Serving an average of 1,500 total individuals per month, we are dedicated to providing low-barrier emergency food assistance to individuals and families in the St. John’s Metro region.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and deliver food: Drive Bridges to Hope’s cargo van to deliver food to clients and collect food from vendors. Use GPS and mapping software to follow routes safely and reliably.
- Load and unload food: Work with staff and volunteers to move food between vendor locations, the food bank, and clients’ doorsteps, using safe lifting practices for items weighing less than 50 pounds and a dolly where helpful. Deliveries may involve entering apartment buildings, but not clients’ homes.
- Communicate with clients and the team: Provide respectful service, coordinate with staff and volunteers, report delivery issues, and share client feedback and suggestions for improving the service.
- Keep the van ready for use: Maintain fuel and windshield washer fluid, clear snow and ice for safe driving, and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
